(Playing on the PC version of Reach, to clarify): Everything has gone smoothly before yesterday when the problem began. I have seen no other posts about this through other mediums, but I will say that I haven’t thoroughly checked these forums. That said, if there’s a post with a similar issue to mine who has found a fix, please send it my way and apologies for the duplicate post, I’m still not 100% sure how to use these forums.
Besides that, the issue I’m encountering is somewhat odd. I can boot the game fine, I can load into the game fine, and I can actually walk around with no issue. But the moment, and I mean nearly the second I engage an enemy player, the game freezes and the screen goes black. I’ve tried updating both my Windows and graphics drivers on the off chance it could be either of those, but that didn’t work. Last night I deleted the game and ran a fresh install overnight, woke up this morning and gave it another shot to no avail.
I’ve narrowed the possible trigger for the crash down to when I’m actually in a gunfight, and I say this because I am able to hide in a corner of a map and remain there for good amount of time until someone inevitably stumbles across me. Choosing not to fire back doesn’t work either, being shot is enough to do it evidently. I’ve tried a few different things suggested in other posts from both here and Reddit but so far nothing has worked.
To be a bit more specific on the details of the crash (TL;DR); There is no error message, the game simply freezes for a few seconds - during which time I can still briefly hear audio - then the screen goes black and the game reads as “unresponsive” in Task Manager. Waiting it out doesn’t work. The game never returns to the menu and remains like that for minutes until I force close. Has anyone else experienced anything like this, or does anyone know of a fix? Thanks for any advice in advance.
