My fixes for Halo Wars 2

Halo Wars was my second most played Halo game on XBOX 360. And always wanting a sequel I almost pretty much expected the sequel to be the same with more stuff. Now my thoughts of Halo Wars 2. It is pretty bad, so much has been done wrong and little has done right.

What is Right?

  • The improvements to upgrades for units as a whole. (Ex. In Halo Wars if you only upgraded one unit (Scorpions) and the other player has a Hornet/Hawx army, it is almost impossible to get the Wolverine upgrade path by the time you are decimated. This game by giving “Vehicle Boosts” allows for more diversity and quick adjustments)
  • The Leader Upgrade Points, although some seem completely useless, others are way better
  • The Power from generators and the new way Tech levels work, makes it a little more complex

What is Wrong?

  • First things first, the camera is awful, please allow more zooming out
  • The art direction is terrible, apologies to the artists, but Halo Wars one had a way better palette of colors, this game looks like Spartan Assault, very bland (In fact I see you are making a Halo Wars Remastered, just use the assets from that game if they are just upgraded)
  • The damage between units is very wrong (In the first game a Warthog would take out a Marine unit very fast, this game a battle lasts a while and this goes for other units that seemingly should have an advantage over other units)
  • Where are individual unit upgrades? I thought this added so much more to the original game (Volley ability, hornet upgrades? Maybe not in beta but they better be there in the game)
  • In Domination, what a terrible decision to have only ground troops and maybe some small vehicles capture points (I have an army of 8 Scorpions just waiting idly by a capture point waiting for a marine to walk across the map, that’s just plain dumb)
  • Bases look so boring, again the art direction needs some work. Explosions looked so cool in the first, in this half the time it doesn’t even look like units are attacking. I could definitely see this game looks cleaner, but Halo Wars too easily looks better

What is Wrong but probably Beta problems? (I’m not going to complain about freezing or load screens I know that won’t happen in the base game)

  • Leader powers were not working sometimes (MAC Blast and Heal wouldn’t go, and yes it was charged)
  • The little feedback when sending a unit to a location wouldn’t pop up so I didn’t know if my units were getting commands
  • Surprisingly I don’t think a lot was wrong in the technical side of the game

Please take this into consideration, when this was revealed I was a day one buyer instantly, then even I saw more footage this E3 and was still a yes, then played the game and I personally think it needs a lot to be changed. Thank you for reading and for making this, and I apologize for the Art/ Design department comments but the game can look more pleasing to the eye (And again from an art direction point not a graphical point - It would be the equivalent of making Halo cell-shaded, makes no sense)

lets not forget… THE UNFORGIVABLE ACT: Removing reactor trolling… PLEASE TELL ME IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. but yea i completely agree. The art is kinda boring… worse than what Spartan Assault had because some of the work looked beautiful, the lack of explosions… WHERE ARE THEY. I just see a little puff of smoke and nothing blowing up when something explodes, the lack of unique powers, believe me because cleansing acts just like the MAC cannon just slow rate. The Mac is a quick shot cannon while the cleansing beam is something that can be aimed where you look. It didn’t do that for this. Another thing, Lack of multiple shots for leader powers. WE NEED MORE ODSTs. ok im not gonna steal the show from you, youre right about all of this.

Preach brother. I haven’t delved into some of the Leader Powers but I hear ODSTs only come out one at a time and then you have to wait. I think the coolness factor is completely missing from this game, and I think the art direction has a lot to do with this. I don’t think explosions exist in this game lol. Dropping 10 ODSTs behind enemy lines, 20 Wolverines using volley ability, 10 Scorpions using Canister Shell, the first game just felt to great. This looks boring and frankly playing is a snooze-fest.

My recommendations for the game:

  • I would like very much to add the flood in Halo Wars 2, if they do it would be a safe purchase and if possible more features for greater diversity in the game. - Animations in promotional videos look good but not appreciated beta, bugs guess that’s because it is beta. - It is difficult to select targets or units, would be very good to add something to provide the cursor adhere to any target. - Should seek to highlight the heroes of the game, they seem one more unit and out of sight. - Include some details of the units to know what advantages or features meet in the game. - I think you could improve a little more the appearance of the building of the bases of the game. - The game in my case is always frozen. - Should put another game of choice as this is very fast and does not reveal in detail the new game options.Well that’s what I can say about the game so far because in my case it freezes in mid-game, I failed to finish a single game for that mistake and reduce my time to learn more about the options offered by Halo Wars 2.

I also had this problem and forgot to mention it, for how big the circle to click a unit is, it seemed like it wouldn’t select them even though my cursor was inside the circle.

I would like them to put the ability to cancel a unit on que back in. Sometimes I get over zealous in my clicking and have too many going.
