My first negative thread (map count)

So I’ve been very positive about Halo 4 and I’m open to almost all of the changes and modifications coming our way as I know 343i is LOADED with talent and won’t let us down.

However, I just read this on GI and it’s the first time I’ve felt truly disappointed.

The competitive multiplayer modes of “Halo 4,” known as War Games, take place on the combat deck of the UNSC Infinity and revive the visceral and immersive experiences that “Halo” multiplayer is famous for. Featuring 10 diverse and action-packed new multiplayer maps at launch, “Halo 4” introduces a broad variety of immersive new game modes and strategies to help you progress your Spartan-IV career, while delivering an experience that’s distinctly “Halo.”

Why, why, why? You know players are going to buy the map packs regardless. Why are there only 10 maps at launch? I was hoping for a bare minimum of 12 but hopefully more like 15 with a decent selection of 4 on 4 and BTB maps. This means the likely ratio is going to be around 7 maps for 4 on 4 with maybe 3 BTB maps.

With how much Halo MP gets played, they are going to feel stale very quickly as they did with Reach.

I’m pretty sure halo 3 started with only 11 so one doesn’t make too much of a difference

That is kind of weak. You know that a handful will only be playable on BTB too so that cuts down the options even more for basic Slayer, which is what I want to play.

I will always want more maps. I am hoping that the ones included in Forge are a lot better than we have seen in the past. I also hope the first DLC arrives as quickly as possible. Hopefully since there are just the ten (If there were 20 I’d say just the 20) at the start they will be highly polished.

Would you rather have 10 aesthetically beautiful and competitive maps, or 20 -Yoink- mediocre maps? I would rather have the ten. And from the 3 we’ve seen (Warhouse and Wraparound, and that unknown BTB map seen in a few shots), 343 has definitely spent a lot of time designing, building and testing them. Don’t judge a game that you don’t own.

as I said in the last one…

10 maps plus “forge spaces.”

Reach had 7, plus 5 forge maps for a total of 12. halo 3 had 11 plus no forge maps. halo 2 had around 13.

ergo (i iz smarty) this is the most maps a halo game has ever launched with. (going off of reach’s 5 forge maps, though admittedly they may have less)
can we stop complaining yet?

Forge spaces.

And don’t forget multiplayer has a new co-host. Spartan Ops are new weekly missions, each having a new environment. When you’re not playing War Games or are slightly bored of the regular maps, there are new and exciting environments and missions coming every week.

Also, don’t forget 3 map packs are already confirmed.

I just noticed something

Halo CE: started with 13 (not the pc version)
Halo 2: started with 12
Halo 3: started with 11

and

Halo 4: starting with 10

interesting one less than the previous title every time

All the other Halo’s had 10-13 default maps.

Don’t forget the Forge’s maps. Hope they are nice!

I am hoping for about 5 Forge maps to be included with the 10 to bring the total to 15. That would add a lot more diversity than just 10. And we know that there are 3 map packs with 3 maps each planned. And then there are the community maps that will be added as well along the way.

So, I think we will end up with a lot of maps to play on, but it is just the starting with 10 that is slightly annoying. I was hoping for more.

Most games tend to have around 10 or so maps give or take at launch.

It makes me glad there is no beta… so i wont be bored of 2 or 3 of them by the time the game launches.

Personally i don’t find this to be a big deal, you’ll be enjoying yourself regardless, and even if some of them will be restricted to certain game types i.e BTB… what is stopping you from changing playlists?

Halo 3 had 11.

Halo:Reach had 6.

Halo 4 having 10 is very good. Plus, they announced 9 additional maps later on through map packs.

Reach actually had 8 not including forge world maps

Boneyard, Spire, Boardwalk, Zealot, Reflection, Countdown, Sword Base, and Powerhouse
