I think a week is long enough for me to drop the problems I have with the game. I’m not going to speak about what 343 did right because well…they did a lot right. There really are not any huge issues I have. Just small things. Granted a pile of small things but still. Anyway i’ll split this up into campaign, warzone, and general multiplayer.
Story: Honestly loved it. Wish some characters were flushed out a bit more. Certain levels should have either been tacked on to previous missions or made as cutscenes. a tinsy bit more details not behind intel. and certain cutscenes felt like they ended short. Mainly the structure basically. Also the friendly AI can be very bad at times.
warzone: escape from the arc. terribly designed map. Whoever thought it was a good idea to stick both armory’s a jog’s pace next to eachother should probably get fired. or re learn map design. Nothing good about that map at all. storm break is better…But is really hard to make a push back if they lock the map down. they eventually out range and overpower you. Apex 7. Probably the best map of the 3. However boss stealing is soooo rampant because there are too many angels to cover to stop a sneaky beaver from snagging it. Which leads me into my biggest warzone issue. Boss scoring. Idc if it’s how moba’s do it. it needs to be redone. I will not add suggestions as I already have plenty to type out about warzone. But it’s safe to say there are many better ways to design scoring. Palmer will not call out non legendary bosses unless you are close to their spawn. I don’t mind having to memorize because previous halos did this. But they’ve done away with it in standard mp. so why the change? This game mode heavily rely’s on your team killing bosses. they need to be aware.
Ghost rushing. It’s probably the stupidest most annoying tactic. I once played a match on storm break where fortress wasn’t capped for a whole 15 minutes because everytime we killed a ghost inside another rushed in. And I tested today that I alone could spawn 10 ghosts in just in one match. and that’s only me. either there needs to be some kind of vehicle cooldown for cheap vehicles or ghosts need to cost more then 3 req points. Spawning is awful. Sometimes I can spawn on top of my contested armory. sometimes It forces me to spawn far away when it’s contested. Other times I’ll choose to spawn at a held base and it forces me to a different spawn. In short it needs a looking into.
general multiplayer: Radar. seems buggy sometimes for enemies not showing up. and it’s too short for arena mode. bump it to 25m. swat needs to not be instant spawns. would solve the horrible spawning and repeated spawns mostly. FFA needs to be 6 people instead of 8 and allow fire teams to join. Frustrating that I can’t play my favorite game mode with my friends like I used to be able to. team identification. Maybe it’s just me but in both warzone and occasionally arena the names above people are hard to read or non existent so I can’t tell from a distance. Shoulder charge. I don’t want it to be useless. But this thing is way more useful then it was in the beta. In the beta I could still use it sometimes. But it was pretty risky. And really only useful for a drop on the enemy. In this release half the time it doesn’t look like they even connect. they can fire practically right after they hit you. and you recover from it pretty easily. I wouldn’t know how to nerf it. but it needs to be toned down slightly. Warzone assault better be forgeable. it needs it’s own maps. the segmented and cobbled together excuses for warzone assault right now are sad. And right now the game feels very bare. I really hope that in december they bring back game modes with forge like infection, oddball, race etc. and hopefully some new maps.
