My First Halo game Advice

hey guys

believe it or not ive never played halo before. so im very keen to give it a try. unfortantly i cant afford halo 4 so i need advice on which game is best to start with and still heavily played online

I do like good looking graphics, so thats a must

its between

Halo 3
ODST
Reach

Im not sure which one to get

If you’ve never played a Halo game before… Eugh, probably start with Reach, honestly. If you like it, get the Combat Evolved Anniversary, then wait for the Halo 2 Anniversary, then get Halo 3: ODST, then Halo 3, then Halo 4.

Playing in the timeline, woo.

Reach makes a great stand-alone game.

Reach would be your best bet. It’s got a rather simple unexciting story (And even disappointing [mainly to lore fans] story), however it’s a good starter for the franchise as it sets you up to the Covenant War, and introduces main characters in the next chronological Halo game. That being Halo CEA.

For chronologic aspect, Halo Reach would be your best bet and work your way up to Halo 4. You can also dip into some interesting campaigns like Halo Wars and ODST. I personally have started Spartan Assault yet but that can also be something different.

If your not planning on playing all the games in between to get a huge knowledge to halo 4, I’d suggest halo 3 just so you can know enough to get an idea of what occurs in halo 4 when you get it.

Halo 3 odst would be if halo 3 (and halo 2) was in halo 4’s position.

Halo Reach doesn’t feel like Halo quite as much, but here is where you should start if you plan on playing all the other ones in between.

Thanks for all the advice guys

I’ve decided to go for reach, i love the look of it and the forge looks like alot of fun to play with

My only question left is, how active is reach these days?

I hate slow matchmaking and laggy multiplayer issues that u get in some games

And do you think reach will survive for another phew years?

It might survive for one more year. Maybe two. But with the Xbox One and new Halo titles solely (I believe) releasing on the Xbox One, I expect it to die out with each new title released.

Play through all the campaigns on the Xbox and Xbox 360 and then save your online for Xbox One. But be warned, it will take a LONG time to get relatively good at Halo. Don’t get frustrated, just keep playing and improving on the core concepts (Melee, Grenade, Gun).

Reach Matchmaking still feels strong. You shouldn’t run into major problems with trying to find players for a while.

Very interesting reply’s

Though i feel i should have menchoned this in the first post

Ill probably never see Halo 3 or lower or ODST. mainly because im not interested in single player ( thats just me )

I’m more interested in the online components of Halo. i love the look of multiplayer/forge/guns in reach and halo 4 has cool graphics for online and the mantis

Ontop of that. im not rich, i can barely keep my xbox 360 running, i wont see an xbox one for many years

I need a game that will last a while on the 360 in multiplayer. so im preying demand is high for halo 4/Reach even with the xbox one/halo 5 that microsoft keep the servers running

I’m glad your starting with Reach. That way, Combat Evolved will feel like a sequel, instead of Reach feeling like a prequel. Did that make sense?
Play them chronologically by story, not release date.
