My final thoughts on MnK aim assist as an MnK player (343, please)

When aim assist was first introduced as part of the early December update, it was incredible. The feeling of be equal to controller was a feeling I had never known in this game. To have played on mouse and keyboard in Halo Infinite, you knew that controller had a severe upper hand and it felt as if everyone was cheating, except only they weren’t. Everyone was just using controller. All of my PC friends switched to controller or they uninstalled specifically due to the balancing. So, when this update dropped, I felt a sigh of relief.

My thoughts changed from position to negative. Mouse and keyboard has no business having any amount of artificial assistance. I played on controller from the very first Halo all the way through Halo 5. I made the switch to MnK (just before Infinite dropped) because I liked the idea of aiming on my own. No longer would I depend on aim assist to help me, I would work for my kills on my own. After all, I could choose to use a mouse over controller so I wouldn’t need said assistance. And I did. It’s been incredibly rewarding to work for your kills and I fell in love with this input.

I understand 343 is looking for a solution in regards to the terrible balancing. The community’s data reflects a grim message that controller was way over tuned. However, the problem lies in that controller is simply too strong and not that MnK was too difficult. Just think about it. On controller you are using your thumbs whereas with a mouse, you can use “your whole arm.” So, how can controller have an accuracy advantage of 15% on average? This accuracy advantage can only be done through artificial means in behalf of controller, not that controller players are better. The accuracy stats from mouse players reflect human limitations since it was largely a raw input. Not bad players.

343, please challenge your player base. Aim assist on controller was and is too strong. If aim assist is so strong that it becomes a requirement for PC players, something is gravely wrong. What’s more, is PC players do not respect artificial assistance. We do not want help. We didn’t ask for it. Many of us switched from controller to MnK for the raw user input experience. This is wrong and only makes Halo more of a joke competitively. Your game is a laughing stock of an esport. Giving aim assist to mouse is not the answer. Nerfing controller is. Remove it.

You’re all right but it’s too late now. If they weakened aim assist on controller, this weak player base would completely disappear because of players crying on controllers. Aim assist for mnk is currently the best solution. What you’re saying would make sense at the start of the game… ahh honestly I’m curious how a halo game would look like where no one would have power or magnetism. This game would just be great.

I agree 100% Sadly, 343 will continue to cater to diamond players and below

Enjoy the game because there’s nothing else left and the game will probably die soon. It’s sad. (I really hope that the franchise will not die) I think that if infinite had for the premiere:

forge
custom game browser
balanced mnk vs controller
splitscreen
matchmaking with the choice of modes and maps you want to play
remastered maps from previous halo games (I added the old maps subjectively)

With these things, I think the game would be alive by now.

I enjoy watching the dichotomy fight over dominance, when the Steam controller and Steamdeck are hybrids of a controller with a mouse trackpad, that are far superior to both for aiming and movement. I use a mouse and a controller at the same time, that has existed since PS2. You can play Halo Infinite with anything from a glove, to a steering wheel, to VR headset, to Azeron, and even with your mouth. My insane friend plays Halo Infinite with a touch screen. How’s that for aim assist? Tap the screen and shoot heads. You’re all still living in the 90s.

I just look at it from a business perspective, there’s no financial incentive for Xbox studios to cater to the MnK population, other than gamepass subs. The gameplay on one game wouldn’t be detrimental to what game pass provides to a PC player, so that point would be moot, forgetting that infinite MP is f2p.
In fact, its more in their interest to try an convert an mnk player to controller or even console.
Probably not going to happen, but you can see why a subsidiary of Xbox studios like 343 would make controller a better experience on a flagship title like halo.

then why was halo made for pc? to play them on a controller? you’re wrong. halo is falling and that’s why it’s f2p and crossplay

Do you mean infinite or halo in general? If general, it was to sell individual copies of the game, so why not make a PC copy too if it’s financially sound. But it is THE flagship title for Xbox, it’s been literally on the box. If you mean infinite, it was to maximize the number of potential customers for the item shop. Both of these reasons do not require explicitly mnk at all.
But it’s in xbox’ interest to have more people to play on their products and they do not make keyboards and mice, so…Yea Right now mnk is kinda wonked with aim assist and glitched diagonal movement (you can literally fly a banshee backwards)…but controllers, xbox’ own products, have TOO much development? Why do you think they took almost year to fix anything on mnk? If those problems existed on controller, that would’ve been fixed day of discovery cause it’s their product. So maybe I’m wrong, but it sure doesn’t seem like it.

Maybe you forgot, Bungie originally developed Halo for PC, but because they were getting low on money, they had to sell out to Microsoft, and then rebuild the game to work for Xbox, including slowing the gameplay down to have to compensate for the terrible aiming of the control sticks. We only got a Halo CE port to PC since it was built for PC to begin with and downgraded for Xbox, but the port was unfortunately scuffed

If they weren’t going financially under, Halo would have originally been made for PC like Doom, Quake, and Unreal Tournament, and they wouldn’t have scrapped the speed booster ability in CE and sprinting in Halo 2. Most of the changes were because of time limits and technical limitations forced by Microsoft and Xbox hardware.

Now that we are 20 years in the future, we shouldn’t have to deal with any of those problems anymore, but aiming with a control stick is still garbage, so because Halo Infinite is fast-paced, it needs ridiculous aim assist to compensate

Omg bla bla halo is console shooter for playing bla bla controller. my first halo is CE on PC. The game came out on PC and I had a great time. Then there was halo 2 and it was also on pc and i had a great time too lol only it was problematic with windows live and vista. I don’t have the strength to argue about such a thing. The game is coming out for pc, it supports mnk but the loyal fan of halo is so exclusive that he will tell you anyway that you are lucky that you can play it. Here you go. You have this attitude that you have a dead game. Mnk players were trampled by the publisher and everyone ran away from the game. That’s not how PC games are made.
