My final post about desync - genuine but happy to leave it at this

To be fair, if you are already calling Halo infinites “prime” done after 6 months, you are pretty much proving the point. This game is, or should, still be in it’s prime for all intents and purposes.

Well, I disagree. FTP releases lose players insanely quickly, evident in the chart. The main reasoning is a lot of players are simply trying the game rather than play it, compared to 60 bucks games where players have the need to experience the content that they spent precious money on, FTP releases don’t have that urgency.
It would’ve been preferable to keep the most amount of players, but it’s just not realistic as an expectation.

We can agree to disagree.

This isn’t a rinky dink FTP title with no previous franchise recognition, that needs to organically build a playerbase. This is a supposed AAA studio with the power of MS behind it, 20 years of brand recognition, multiple HCS tournies, a TV show, a giveaway essentially with Gamepass and third party promos out the rear.

This game got rave reviews, until things like shot reg, desync, log wait times, PC crashes, UI issues, lack of communication, issues between input devices, and other just overall sloppyshopness like the BTB issues, chased players away.

If this game launched in a better state, player attrition would not be so bad regardless of being FTP or not.

This is not what rubberbanding is. Rubberbanding is when things appear to move, then bounce back. Usually when you the player are trying to run forward or something and are jumped back. Thus the term “rubberbanding” because you run out then snap back like a rubberband. Rubberbanding usually happens because of very high ping or poor predictive algorithms on the server side.

Things just teleporting around the map usually is just packet loss, yes. However

This is not always the case. It’s entirely possible packet loss can be caused server side, or anywhere in-between. And especially in instances like widely reported here that it only happens to this extent with Halo Infinite. Telling the player base “It’s your fault, just buy better gear if you want play.” is one of the most out-of-touch and privileged viewpoints and not helpful at all.

The problem is that game stability issues, such as desync or whatever might be going on, has ruined the credibility of the game. Every halo has included fast paced close calls, but when you can’t trust whether you really missed or whether the game is actually broken, you have a serious problem.

And 343 is not really addressing any of these underlying “mechanical” issues in their communication.

If a player experience problems only in one game, then it probably is the servers fault or port not open problems. It can be communications error if one player has all ports closed, NAT closed.

Your theory of rubberbanding seems to be wrong then…

@Ken_CTF you’ve been awfully quiet on this thread for a while.

Today I had the worst desync ever, I even got lagged out, not on Live but on the Halo server. I could still talk to my friends.
