My feedback on gameplay

So I pretty much only play warzone firefight any more, and honestly if it weren’t for that game mode, I wouldn’t be playing H5 at all.
PvP has become too focused on speed to kill, and has forgotten what fun is. I remember back in Reach multiplayer, when I hated playing firefight because I wanted to jump back into invasion again. When it was released, I didn’t like that ODST was only firefight. It was still fun, but I predominately liked the multiplayer more. Now it’s flipped. I feel like the fun has been missing from halo multiplayer, and it isn’t because of the playlist. I think, genuinely, it is because of the style of combat. Too many things now can make you an easy kill, sprinting is punishing whether you use it or not, spartan charge is wonky and doesn’t have the same outcome every time, and precision weapons DOMINATE the battlefield. I never liked the BR playlists in H3, and it’s simply because it makes the game too competitive. I’m playing halo for fun. I don’t find tryharding fun. When you focus on the kills, halo stops being as much fun, because instead of thinking through how to tackle an enemy with your AR, or how to defend a core from stealth assassin elites (invasion) you just shoot somebody in the head 4 times and you win. It’s over simplified and takes away from player choice. I said this when H4 came out, and I will continually say it until the day halo realizes why it is fun. The devs seems to be misguided by a loud minority. Well, not anymore… the players who would agree with me have left the franchise… now we are left with only competitive adrenaline seeking players. There is nothing wrong with that, it’s just not for me. Halo used to have a balance. Now it’s strictly oversimplified combat.

Just my thoughts and opinions. Throwing my two cents into the fountain of opinion.

Some people find fun through competitive playlists. I personally did not find Invasion fun.

The biggest problem with Halo Reach and Halo 4 was completely shafting the competitive community.

I can definitely see what you’re saying. Once you start getting into higher ranks halo has to be played a certain way. I personally like it cause I prefer really competitive gameplay.

I didn’t play a lot of Invasion, but I did play a lot of Firefight, and I still do. What you call simple I call terribly complex and diverse. I must be lucky because I have kids using AR’s all over the place in TA lately. To be quite frank it is a little annoying but understandable since they are a good close quarter weapon.

I hate to break it to ya, but Halo multiplayer has always been a big proponent of precision and competittion. In my opinion it has a combination of simplified complexity, simple because it’s straightforward, shoot this guy more than he shoots you, but complex in the sense that there are so many ways to go about doing that.

It is unfortunate that you are not enjoying this Halo as much as past Halo’s, but this idea of competitive and Halo will never end.

I’m tired, so I don’t want to go in-depth with your post, but if you can’t have fun in any of the 18 PvP playlists, I don’t know what to tell you. Quick question: how is sprint punishing whether you use it or not? It’s only punishing if you over-sprint, but you don’t need to use it to get around effectively.

Lemme just jump in right here and say this: The very balance between Casual playing and Competitive playing, have been absent since the golden age of Halo 3.

Why? Look at Reach… Competitive players feld alienated, when Reach came out, same with Halo 4. That’s two major titles in the franchise, where it wasn’t tailored towards both. Halo 5 brings back the balance.

Warzone AND Arena. Sure, people focus on the kills… It’s what gets you the sweet sweet victory! Bobbing around, chilling aint gonna win the match. I play warzone more than anything in H5 and while i like competitive, i find Warzone to be that enjoyable, casual experience.

You have Social playlists available now in H5. Where 343 intended for the casuals to have their place, in the arena modes. Wether it’s a BR fest or not… i can’t say…
But Action sack is in there, so is infection… BTB… You name it. While the very essence of multiplayer, is to fulfill the objective (win, score… whateves) those game modes are built for FUN experiences.

Regarding the dominating precision weapons… They have dominated since Halo: CE, my dear friend. The pistol whipping, death machine you were back then. Later it became the BR in Halo 2, which became the ‘‘main’’ rifle in play. Halo 3 was a mixture of AR/BR but overall, we all know which had the highest percentage in kills. Reach sure did up the Precision rifle game, when they shelled the AR, to look like an alarm clock and shoot marshmellows. DMR and needle rifle were suddenly ‘‘THE guns’’.
Halo 4 re-introduced the BR, alongside the new DMR model, as well as the Carbine’s wonderful return…

I could go on forever but i hope you get my point… Precision weapons is the dominance of Halo. It aint no regular AR slayer game, where a few shots to the knee, grants you a kill.

The mechanics of Halo have since twists and changes since the very beginning but the core? Been the same all the way through.

And i apologize if my English is bad at certain points, i am a very tired person, like our fellow community member, Arc Trooper.

But but but…you have a social playlist now. Team skirmish, more objective based game modes in it and it’s non ranked. And really, more kills wins the game? If only that were always true.

Preach it, Kenni.

The short radar distance in multiplayer gives me panic attacks. I wish they would increase it to the older feel (bigger scan distance) for social playlists and the pros can have that stupid worthless reader if they want.

I mean, it could also just me getting older and not playing as much resulting in dying way too much. But I am usually top 3 in the scoreboard.
Halo 3’s primarily AR combat in normal slayer felt fun. Br fights felt dangerous. Stressful.
I stopped playing Dying light. It wasn’t because it was bad, but because it stressed the hell out of me. I was having the time of my life, but I was definitely not casually playing. In halo 2, I never played regular slayer, only swat. You would argue that is even more dangerous, but short spawn times and insta kills were the only way I could cope with the precision -Yoink-. It’s not so much that Br play is bad, I just don’t like it given the alternative. The fact of the matter is, I’m not playing Halo 5 as much as I think I ought to, and it’s because it feels stressful to play.

I honestly think most of this is based on me getting older, lazier, and more casual in play. I don’t stay up all night playing like I used to. The fact that seemingly nobody agrees with me tells me that it’s an issue with me, not the game. Actually if I think back, hardly anybody has shared my opinion across the halo franchise teehee

Arguably, I found that to be the best part about the two games.

Well that’s the problem in a nutshell. You’re berating people for simply having a different playstyle than you. This is what led to a lot of people leaving because the competitive players had no place to be, and the game was fully centered around social play.

A game that caters to multiple styles of play is what Halo Reach and 4 failed to grasp all this time, and Halo 5 is only now just getting.

Halo is a game of precision weapons… always has been. The faster you learn and develop your game around them, the better off you will be.

You might even find some FUN in 4-shotting scrubs after a while too! I know I DO!

There’s few things more rewarding then a solid four-shot when battling an enemy.

This game is one of the more complex ones, the fact that you seem to be bashing competitive players and faulting your own gameplay to getting old is silly.

wait when was the AR the go to in H3? You spawned with it but you ditched it the first chance you had, why? Because it was god awful. Precision’s have dominated ever since H1. Pistol = H1, BR = 2-3, DMR = Reach - 4, and they all are viable in H5. Automatics never really had a place in Halo until H5 where now they are so powerful they break the gun balance of a map (hence there reduction in amount on some maps)
