I’ve gotten to play a decent number of Infinity Slayer and CTF at the Game Stop eXpo. These are just my personal impressions, but thought I’d share.
Seems like you are more agile all around, jump further/higher.
Wield a pistol while holding the flag in CTF.
Grenade throws are MUCH weaker. Not as far, seems odd since we’re playing a super soldier.
DMR is amazing at mid-long range.
BR seems like Halo 3.
A lot of the gun and assassination sounds seem muffled. Not as much kick to the audio.
Infinity Slayer is a blast, ordinance drops seem to get better if you wait to use them after getting more kills???
All and all it only increased my level of hype for this game. For any nay-sayers out there, it still plays like a true Halo game.
Anyone else get to play before PAX?
> Sounds fun, but I do have a question: How does it feel? Does it feel like Halo, another game, or is it in a class of its own?
100% halo. The new additions are really just re-workings of the prior layout.
> did you feel like wielding the magnum with the flag changed the way the flag was run?
I didn’t notice a speed decrease and you can still zoom in. Obviously your field of vision is covered from the flag a little, but nothing crazy. Also, I think you only have the option to do this if you have a magnum equipped. Also, I think You melee with the magnum, not the flag. So if you want the flag melee, swap weapons.
> I didn’t search far in-depth with the gameplay, but I’ve been hearing that you can’t hold two primary guns (like br and dmr at the same time) without that perk, and pick up ammo and grenades from dead bodies without that other perk. Any of that true? Just asking because I think that would make gameplay much better being limited to what you can do, ex. spamming grenades.
Yes, you are limited to your secondary, even after the AA. Grenades are an option in the early ordinance drops.
> Ooooooohhh… BR like Halo 3…? What do you mean guy… You’re freakin me out just sayin stuff like that… I don’t want Halo 4 to turn into perma-team BRs again like Halo 3…
Honesty I was in love with the DMR and only switched to the BR if closer proximity to enemies. I still think most hard core players will have a preferred weapon, similar to the Lancer vs Hammer burst in Gears
> Flag insta kill will be missed. I might almost prefer that ability over a magnum. It should be both though…
Wait till you see the flag assassination
> Did you find grenade throws more similar to halo 3 or reach?
>
> In halo 3 grenade throwing was perfect, i could throw cross map nades effortlessly

> In reach i had to learn to throw nades all over again

> Also, do in halo 3 grenades can detonate from any surface, but in reach it has to hit the floor, which one is it in h4?
Grenade throws were my first biggest gripe. It’s similar to reach, but seriously, it feels like you throwing half as hard. The 'nades just drop to the ground really quick. Hope it’s fixed or else nades are only close-mid range, but that might be 343’s intention
UPDATE 2
> I think I read wrong. You said you can only wield pistol with flag if it’s in your loadout. So that means you can still insta kill with flag, as long as you don’t wield a pistol?
Yes, without the pistol you’ll still be able to melee with the flag.
> Please, please tell me I don’t have to have a perk to pick up another primary in the field. Having grenades need a perk to be picked up is bad enough, but… I’m not sure I could enjoy multiplayer if it’s gonna impose a Primary Slot/Secondary Slot thing on me for no reason unless I use a perk.
Yes, can still pick up any weapon on the field WITHOUT the perk, but for grenades you’ll need the perk or use an ordinance drop.
> Have you only played infinity slayer? What about normal? I have heard that infinity slayer does not have on-map weapons to pick up on the fly…is this true?
Only played Infinity slayer. Weapons spawn on timers and there is an icon on the HUD that is a count down timer, so you know when they will spawn. They are also visible by icons in the HUD. Meaning the Sniper Rifle has an icon and arrow pointing down that shows it’s position and distance from where you are, just so long as you are looking in the direction of the weapon.
> Is the AR more like Halo 3’s or Reach?
Honestly, I never used the AR unless I had no other options. It felt “normal” and killed in less than a full clip.
> How dangerous is the plasma grenade?
I only used the stickies once or twice from an ordinance drop I stole, and can’t say I killed anyone.
There is a new grenade that does a small AOE damage just like vortex grenade from Perfect Dark… if anyone remembers that.
