My experience with Halo 5

First off I Have been playing since CE was never pro or mlg but KD was always around 1.5 and I was always shooting for 2.0
Should also say I never really played with a team (or even a mic) so I always tried a little bit extra to be a team player jumping in to help out team mates in a fight or give them power weapons, if I had two for example, or a me and a team member just fought off the opposing team for the snipe and I know my team mate is better and they were going for it anyway. I always try to play tactically cutting off escape routes or flanking etc. I played a lot of the games and try to play so my team members won’t get pissed off cos I don’t have a mic, I put a lot of thought into playing so everyone can enjoy the game.
Sometimes I even feel bad when the other team gets stomped… but only sometimes.

It’s kinda sad to say that my experience with Halo 5 has not really been very enjoyable, I just feel like I am rubbish at the game. Before stating what I don’t like I will concede that some part not enjoying Halo 5 could be down to myself not being able to adapt to the new pace and abilities.

I picked 5 things to go into detail about. Putting all my Halo 5 experiences together and thinking about them is kind of a depressing exercise I really want to enjoy this game.

No. 1 4v4 Maps
I really think these maps are too small.
Players have infinite sprint why would you not make the maps larger.
Halo games always had sweet skill jumps, Halo 5 has some too but with clamber as well as sprint (and super slide trick) maps are so quick to traverse it’s insane.
Personally I think there is something else happening here, sprinting and vertical paths in maps have impacted map flow. I used to be able to predict pretty accurately what path an enemy player would take, now I feel like nowhere on the map is safe and I miss those moments when you knew you weren’t near the action on the map so could take a moment and plan your next move.

No. 2 Aiming
I have no idea really what is wrong but I think something is still definitely wrong. I didn’t play the beta so can’t speak of how the aiming in the beta compares but it seems the beta had much better aiming.
I have played around with the dead-zones, sensitivity and aim acceleration and have only had moderate success. I used to play on sens 5 currently have sens on 3 and aim acceleration on 2 so now I can kind of aim okay some times but if there is anyone behind me (or not in front of me) turning is slow so usually I turn around just in time to see the final bullet kill me. Have tried setting aim sens to 4 or 5 and aim acceleration on 1 but this was some how worse for me. I have absolutely no idea how anyone could possibly get a perfect kill consistently with the magnum. I have gotten a few but that was only really when the enemy wasn’t moving much or running in a straight line towards me or away from me or it was just pure luck.

No 3. Radar Size
Again this seems like something that was changed form the Beta. Players move faster than ever before but the radar is reduced. On truth for example I think you won’t see someone on the radar if they are in the same room in (Red/Blue tower). It’s generally useless in Halo 5, I know some people love the smaller size but I would think that the people that love it are the same people that love playing slayer pro, I never really liked BR and no Radar myself so I think the small Radar is just plain stupid. Smaller Maps and a smaller radar kind of makes sense but doesn’t really feel like Halo.

No 4. Map flow (I am clueless)
Have no idea what to say about this, touched on it a little in point 1 but generally I seem to spend most of my time running around behind where all the battles are going on. Or I could wait for them to come around but because of the super speedy spartans … this doesn’t work either. Feels like there are too many ways to get across a map too quickly and there is no real flow, every one just gets to go anywhere and everywhere. It’s like an awful game of musical chairs but I never get a seat and still have to keep playing.

No.5 I just keep dying (Ranking)
Now I was never really interested in the ranking system in Halo game or how match making works so I can’t say much. If anything I feel like I was ranked too high after placement. First time I played Slayer I was ranked Platinum 5 then for the Jan Ranked as Diamond 1. Highest I ever ranked was Diamond 3 I held it for exactly zero games, team I was on had won some games, ranked up to D3, lost the very next game and back to D2.
Would be good if players can rank down from diamond to platinum to gold etc. I think I need to wait for the next season and then try and play poorly on purpose so I can rank in as gold maybe and get some practice in against easier opponents - Why am I even saying this about a Halo game!!! Yes, play crap on purpose, thank you 343 for making me want to do that. I actually can’t do that, I wanna win -Yoink!-.

Post will get more like a rant now.
I think I might have played 2 (3?) games of warzone. Didn’t really like it, was super excited when I first heard about it, big maps, sweet enemy AI monsters! But reqs are a bad idea I think, spent the whole time wondering where the weapons on the map where then went off to fight the AI dudes and there was like only a few of them in a corner. Maybe I should try more warzone games to see if always like that.

Holy moley I cannot hit a thing with the rocked launchers. Enemy boosts too early so I shoot where I think he is going to land … you missed my battleship! Have gotten a few sweet rocket marys but if you just stand right next to me I probably will miss you. All the rocket launchers I get are defective, must be.

Man I wish they would turn friendly fire off. Don’t get me wrong I like that you have to be more careful and not shoot your buddy in the back of the head or try (and fail :D) to not explode buddy with nades. But nades are made to be thrown and also some times buddy has low shields and runs into a splinter grenade that I threw some time ago… that’s not my fault. But I really miss being able to lob many many explosives at my team mate who was in QCQ with an enemy and not have to worry about it.

Big team battle is cool, kinda hate the gungoose. Having a lot of trouble shooting folks in the head when they are in a gungoose. Do the hit markers mean I hit the vehicle or the guy in the vehicle?!??!?? It’s a mystery so I’ll just keep shooting. Also! Who’s idea was it to make vehicles not show up on the radar when they aren’t moving? That happens, I’m pretty sure it does, have walked out on an enemy in the warthog gun on more than once. Coast looks clear, nothing on this giant radar that comes with B2B but Warthog guy was there all along. Balls, that was probably not a clever thing for me to do.

Maps are also kinda smaller in B2B but I actually like em. Really wish there was more you could do about the gungoose. There are wepons on the map, stickies can be hard when you are looking down 2 huge cannons on a mobile death quad. (TIPS for dealing with gungoose are welcome.)

Unlimited nades on the back of a gungoose? Yep like that, it’s awesome I don’t even care if I hit my team mates, I dropped a penny into the bottom of the nade box on the gungoose so I HAVE to throw them all to get it back!

Finally, no halo ever made me consider changing my controller layout Halo 5 has and I think maybe that shouldn’t be the case.
PS Servers in Europe and other countries would definitely be a good idea.
