My Dream Halo..

So, after being totally stoked about halo MCC coming out to relive my old memories.
I asked myself what 343 could do to make me want to play halo 5 more than halo mcc. I’ve decided to make this post, as more so my wishlist for halo 5 guardians. Just to go ahead and state ahead of time, before I get flamed… I do not know any of the technical capabilities, or legal rights for any of this to be possible. Merely just my personal hopes and dreams.

First off, I want them to use the old halo 2 engine, not some remodified halo 4, or some other new thing. I want halo 2’s engine exactly the way it is, the double shooting, the bxr’ing, bxb’ing… You get the point. Hell… even the super jumps and other glitches, all of those little things made halo 2 so much more of an amazing game.

All of this speculation so far over spartan abilities has me worried… I don’t understand the point behind adding “new shiny things” to a game series that already had it all. To give an example here, (and sorry for doing this) but probably the most successful fps out right now is Counter Strike. I asked myself why that was such a successful game, and if you really think about it… Not much has changed from cs 1.6 to cs go. (I know a few things are different but the core game is the same.) They started out with a good, and addicting fps and stuck with it. I want halo to do this… Halo 2 was an amazing game, why try to fix something that isn’t broken. All of that being said, scrap the entire idea.

Now for the maps, this idea is what I want the most out of halo 5 for sure. Would it not be amazing to add all of the best maps from all of the halo games, into halo 5? I’m talking, lockout, waterworks, guardian, the pit, narrows, construct, sanctuary, midship (ive watched the trailer I know its in there), ivory tower, and many more the list just goes on… Soooo many good maps have been released over the years and I want all of them in one game.

In closing, I just wanted to make my little rant and put my ideas out there. If you could tell, I’m a bit biased for halo 2 but for all who have played during that time knows that it truly was the best fps out there that carved the way for many other games in esports. Thanks for the read and I hope to see all of you in the future halos!

TLDR I want halo 5 with halo 2’s engine, all the old badass maps, and without new stuff thats usually bad

Using an old original Xbox engine on a new next gen console + putting glitches and bugs in the game intentionally? I’m pretty sure that this is not going to happen.

If you liked the original Halo 2 just play it in the Master Chief Collection. It is included besides the Halo 2 Anniversary, and as you were mentioning some Halo 3 maps > Halo 3’s multiplayer is also included and of course Halo 4’s and CE’s. But I’m pretty sure you already know that.

Moreover, your post doesn’t sound like a wishlist for Halo 5 to me, but rather your wish for a “Best of” Halo based on Halo 2.

Don’t get me wrong, you’re allowed to have your own imagination of your “Dream Halo”, but please don’t get mad or disappointed if Halo 5 isn’t the game you dreamed of.

I’d rather not have the exact same Halo 2 engine. I don’t want to live in 2004 with old mechanics, cheats, and gameplay. Halo needs to evolve. Definitely not in the same way Halo 4 did, but it needs to move on from Halo 2. If we just had Halo 2 multiplayer every single year, it would get old like COD did. I don’t want that. I want Halo to thrive and I think in order for it to do that, it needs to stay true to its roots, but evolve and introduce new things as well.

Sadly I realize the first part will never happen, however it unintentially added in so much more depth to the game. It made halo 2’s “skill cap” much higher than the rest of the games which I believe is a huge reason as to why it was so popular.

I will be playing the hell out of MCC, so much so I’m afraid I wont care at all about halo 5, and I don’t want that to be the case. Lets just face it, after reach halo died. I’m not sure if you’re into competitve gaming, but if you are im sure you at least half way understand where I’m coming from. Just about every new thing added has only hurt the game. After halo 3 I mainly switched to pc gaming, but when halo 4 released I regretably bought the Xbox 360 special edition with hopes of having another great experience, but ended up returning it in about a week.

In my opinion, assuming they are still aiming for the competitve market, a great fps needs that clean feeling. Something which allows for skill and not just some woo look at me fly through the air isn’t this cool?!? To refer again to the most popular competitve fps, cs go hit 410k+ views in its last tournament and as I stated before nothing major has changed since cs 1.6. There is a reason for that, I just hope someone understands.

However my original intention wasn’t to try and piss off people acting like an old fart “all these kids and their new stuff” kind of attitude. I just love the game and I want to see its return into esports.

Your dream Halo 5 would just be Halo 2 with more maps. Wouldn’t it make more sense to just give Halo 2 more maps? You could even be playing that right now if Windows Vista didn’t end up being a giant failure.

I don’t really have much else to say.

I think some dreams are best left as just being dreams.

The Halo 5 beta will launch a month after the MCC is released so I think you can get if even a small glimp into the game. We already know that there are no armor abilities and no loadouts. Everything will focus on arena gameplay what means equal starts, power weapon control, map control and so on.

343 also stated that Halo 5 will lean towards e-sports what I’d really love to see. And if you think about it, the recent tournaments organized by 343 on Gamescom and PAX Prime (as far as I know another tournament was hinted) show us that they try to bring Halo back to it’s competitive roots.

But still, Halo 5 won’t just be another Halo 2.

And as a competitive player myself I’d like to give you an advise:
Be more open minded to changes and try to adapt to them, because… there is always something that changes. You’re probably a Halo 2 pro, but how good are you at Halo 1 or 3 or even Halo 4? Try to learn these games too, adjust yourself to every Halo game’s unique features, get out of your Halo 2 comfort zone and try to accomplish something new. From my experience I can tell you that it is far more satisfying to be able to pwn some tryhards across most of the Halo games than just being “stuck” on one game  And due to the MCC I think the ability to be good in Halo 1 - 4 is even more important

One thing I have to agree with is Spartan Abilities. I really do wonder if its just a big cover up to just rename AA which I personally think it is.

> One thing I have to agree with is Spartan Abilities. I really do wonder if its just a big cover up to just rename AA which I personally think it is.

I don’t think that it’s just a renaming. I think it was Frank O’Connor who said something like Halo 2’s spartan ablities were Dual Wielding and Vehicle Boarding.

> One thing I have to agree with is Spartan Abilities. I really do wonder if its just a big cover up to just rename AA which I personally think it is.

Cover up? What are they hiding?

Most likely they are just brand new armor abilities that everyone spawns identically with. They’ve done nothing to disguise this.

To add more depth to the product and make it more fresh, i.e. what a sequel is supposed to do instead of just being a rehash of the same thing.

I do agree they are doing a fantastic job with MCC, I’m very pleased with the amount of coverage pre-release. I guess halo 5 for me though as you said will all come down to the beta. I hope its great, and I hope it has tons of success.

As far as playing all of the rest, I played halo 1-3 quite a lot, not as much on h1 as I would of liked, but hey no online multiplayer. I’d like to think I’m quite an open minded person, but I can’t force myself to try to be good at something that just isn’t worth being good at (reach/4). I do believe some change is good, but I’m still against core gameplay changes. I guess it all comes down to what changes they decide to make, and how they make an impact. They are really making the right move though pushing things into twitch, and trying to get mass competitive tournaments early. I’ll keep my hopes up!

> To add more depth to the product and make it more fresh, i.e. what a sequel is supposed to do instead of just being a rehash of the same thing.

There is a line between depth and clutter, I’m just hoping it doesn’t get crossed.

Halo 5 is supposed to be a brand new game. The MCC is for the Halo 2 engine, with glitches and the maps.

They have said they realised their mistakes with Halo 4 and are trying to change Halo 5 for the better, so I would rather have a fresh game than another collection type deal full of old content.

I like CS but it is most definitely not the most popular FPS out there right now lol.

And I love h2 but this idea is just silly.

I could rant about this, but I’m just going to TL;DR myself before I even start:

Halo 5 should be its own game, remaining competitive and enjoyable as the franchise’s titles have been before it, instead of catering to antiquity. The MCC is doing that, so Halo 5 doesn’t have to. For all we know, Halo 5 could be better than Halo 2 and 3 put together, that is if people are willing to take their nostalgia-glasses off.

I think I may have underestimated the different mindsets of console gaming vs pc gaming. From what I’m reading here, console gamers seem to want entirely new games, where I come from a strong pc gaming background and would rather things be polished. I believe I let that side of me take over as I was writing this (not to start some kind of pc/console war, plz don’t). I do hope all of you are right in wanting something new, and it doesn’t hurt it more than help. Time will tell I suppose.

It was just my opinion, but yes CS is most definitely the most popular fps out right now. You’re more than welcome to check out twitch any day of the week and see the viewer count for yourself. It’s close to LoL status come tournament time, and that’s saying something! hah. I was just trying to use it as an example of what I was wanting, as far as what kind of changes they should make, not to boast cs over halo, I do love halo.

Reach came out in 2010. we have 2014 now. since Reach countless books came out, we had H4:FuD, now we’re getting the mcc with the second halo-related series called H:Nightfall & next fall we’ll getting a tv-series executive produced by Steven Spielberg and H5G. Oh Boy, Halo is anything else than dead, it is more alive than ever.

Its definitely starting to pick back up with MCC coming soon. However I meant the playerbase of reach/4, not the extra content. I never keep up with those really but its great to hear they are still coming out I guess!
