My concerns with cross-play

Hello Spartans

I just read about the cross-play ability of Halo Infinite and that it might “filtered” by input device.

But this (if its true) means, a PC player with Gamepad that uses [undetected] Mods would still match against console players.
We all know how many autoaim or wallhacks are undetected f.e. in Counterstrike.
Was this ever addressed or discussed somewhere?

MCC seems to be doing fine. It’s all about how effective your anti-cheat systems are.

Mouse players are at a disadvantage against controller players anyway.

Source: I play MCC on pc with controller and do FAR, FAR, better.

I think the system for cross play will be pretty similar to MCC. They allow you to filter your matchmaking by both input method and by platform if you choose, so you’ll most likely be able to restrict your matchmaking to only xbox if you wanted to.

Mostly this.

Not to mention that MCC does let you turn crossplay off, so if you are concerned that the anti-cheat is not up to snuff then you can just turn it off.

I believe Halo Infinite will be trying to really bring down the difference between controller and m&kb than how MCC feels - which is made up of games literally made only for controller playing.

As long as there is native KBM support on PC and Xbox, no problems. Also ability to turn off cross-platform matchmaking is a thing.

Well you also have to think about the reason for people to cheat in a game like MCC, compared to infinite for example. MCC being irrelevant and having no reason to cheat helps it a lot right now.

I feel like I read somewhere that you won’t be able to turn it off in infinite. Take that with a grain of salt because I can’t remember where I heard it, but it was something to do with Series needing it on to play with One players. Again, even reading it seems sus lol

We should be fine. Not at first, for sure. H5 multiplayer was so bad in the beginning, I stopped playing the game for 3 years.

Don’t complain that it’s taking too long to queue up a match when applying all these filters.

Exactly this^

If somehow cheaters flood in due to infinite being f2p and 343 cant get a lid on it with their anti cheat i’ll simply disable crossplay as console will have more player than PC anyway. Even if there is no filters at launch you can block other platforms at the OS level in your xbox privacy settings so no matter how you slice it, if youre a console player you wont have to deal with the cons of pc player stuff if you dont want to.

Hopefully 343 simply nails anti cheat and detection stuff.

Thx for the Tipp mate.
Thats good to know.

It depends on gametype, you go up against mouse and keyboard in swat or snipers as a controller player and you are at a disadvantage .

It may be free to play but it still requires an Xbox live account and setting up an account (even a free one) is typically a 10 to 20 min long process so it would be difficult to mass produce accounts like what happened with cod.

of course. Even so its still nice to have the option to just lock the pc player pool out entirely just in case. 343’s anti cheat seems to be good but honestly its probably cause halo simply isnt anywhere near relevant for the past 4 years, so theres no need for any cheat makers to really try to break 343’s anti cheat lol.

I agree. The cheating in Call of Duty is all from PC players in my experience. Every wall hack or aimbot I come across is a PC, having the option to turn off cross play is an easy fix and I expect Halo to have that option too. I would like another cross play option though.

I would like the option to keep console cross play on and switch off PC cross play for certain games. I know it’s not relevant to Halo but I have friends on PS4 and 5 that play Call of Duty and disabling cross play is a problem in that scenario. An extra option would be good.

Hopefully they just give us ability to turn cross play off.
