My concerns about Halo 4 Campaign

Hello all.

I don’t want this to become a rant and rave about how terrible this game is. It’s not a bad game at all.

I do, however, want to share some constructive criticism in the hopes that maybe some things can be improved for the next round.

I really applaud the attempt to branch out into other Halo lore and build on the Forerunner story. It is a great source of material, and in the right hands can be crafted into another epic chapter.

I believe that Halo 4 has started us on this path.

My concern comes from the fact that this campaign wraps up and leaves me more confused than anything else. I understand that the cliffhanger is supposed to leave us looking to the next games for the conclusion, and I don’t mind that at all. That’s a good hook to keep us coming back. What just kills me is that now I have to scoure the internet for answers to what the heck even happened. During the final stage, and the ending cinematic, there was a lot of stuff going on, but none of it is explained, and we’re supposed to just watch and nod? No matter what game we are playing, we should be able to follow what is happening on screen. To just DO a bunch of stuff without explanation is more frustrating than anything else. Especially to a fan that has played each previous game religously, read the books, and watched the video releases.

This is a pretty epic leap in a new direction which I admire. I would say don’t bite off more than you can chew if you can’t explain it properly though. As I said above, I literally have to look to outside sources for an understanding of what just happened in my epic struggle against an evil villian.

Keep up the spirit of exploring new worlds and enemies. Please, please, try to remember to bring us along with you though. You left me behind here at the end of this one.

PS: I laughed to myself when I read some other rants about the campaign, becuase I really have to agree with one other common complaint. To many damn buttons to press. If I have to plug Cortana into one more damn pillar, I’ll just leave her there. In fact a few times I wished I could have. In a sense I guess this ties into my original post above: If Cortana needs to be plugged in every 5 seconds to tell us what’s up, slow it down for us! She’s a whole lot smarter than I am, and whatever the heck it is that we did in the last stage of the game, apparently she is the only one in my household that understood it.

That P.S. killed me! So funny, yet so much truth in it!

Yeah, I think 343i had too much faith in the fanbase to read 4 novels before the game. Didn’t work out to well with its rather poor pacing and assumptions that you know what is going on.
