My concern: lack of retail content?

Hmm. I’m okay with the changes that 343 are bringing to the Halo franchise, and I’m pretty sure that Halo 4 is going to be a great game, but there doesn’t seem to be much replay value in it for a guy who doesn’t have Xbox Live (I’m 15–-two years below Halo’s recommended age limit–and I have -Yoink!-, so there’s no way my parents are going to let me play games online). Gears of War 3 is a fitting example for my statement. Here goes.

Gears of War 3 content I got:

  • A campaign that is more scripted and slightly inferior to Halo’s outstanding singleplayer experience, but nonetheless the fiction is pretty cool in its own right and playing on Insane difficulty is very entertaining.
  • A versus mode with actual bots that can be set to high difficulties, so I’m not really missing out on the online experience. I’m just not playing with other humans.
  • Horde Mode 2.0, which–with all its new features–is 10x more intense and thrilling than what any other shooter’s survival mode could ever have provided for me.
  • Beast Mode, which is like Horde in reverse but with totally different mechanics and objectives.

Halo 4 content I’ll be getting:

  • An awesome campaign, no doubt. I’ve waited so long for the story to return to the Chief, and from what I hear, Halo 4 is going to be delving deeply into the backstory of the saga.
  • Versus mode is out because I don’t have XBL and the few friends I have either stopped LAN scrimming a few years ago or don’t play shooter games at all.
  • Spartan Ops is out because I don’t have XBL, which means I can’t even download it.
  • Firefight will not return.

To make a long story short: For Gears of War 3, I paid $60 for campaign, versus, Horde, and Beast. For Halo 4, I’ll have to pay $60 for only the campaign. Thoughts?

Halo is and has always been story driven, but seeing as you’re unhappy with the 8-10 hour campaign multiplayer is the only option, BUT 343 is making multiplayer tie into the story.
It’s not 343’s fault you don’t have live, he’s complaining about the game not having enough offline content, when the game is DESIGNED TO HAVE ALL IT’S LONGEVITY VIA MULTIPLAYER, thats what Halo is, a story driven multiplayer based game, and finally now the multiplayer will tie into the Lore, you need to stop complaining about the lack of retail content, because there is more than enough, so much infact that the game will ship with 2 disks, as for your autsim, well if your parents let you play a violent gore induced game like gears, i’m pretty sure they can let you Play Halo multiplayer, all they have to do is turn off player interaction in family settings, then all you will be doing is basically be playing bots with human reactions and skill levels, there is no issue here.

I hope i’m wrong, but OP is trolling, his parents don’t want him to go on xbox live and socialize because of his -Yoink!-, yet he is on a web forum, which has all the basic traits of a social networking site, this makes no sense.

If you’re not allowed live because you’re parents don’t want you socializing virtually, how come you’re on a web forum? Why don’t you tell them about family settings, they can turn off player interaction, if you have -Yoink!- and are unable to play games because you are underage, why are you allowed to play one of the most violent games on the 360, heres how i see it, if you’re unhappy with the ammount of offline content, you can rent the game or simply not buy it, Halo isn’t intended to be an offline singleplayer RPG game with hours of offline gameplay, it’s a multplayer game, and has been since Halo 2, it’s designed around multiplayer it’s marketed towards multiplayer, having -Yoink!- is no reason to be unable to play multiplayer, if you’re worried about skill, then Halo has a trueskill system so only players of your skill will go against you, if your parents are worried about you talking to other people they can disable player interaction, don’t put the game down because of your problems, i’ve given solutions, it’s up to you to decide if you want to use them even though your story of having “-Yoink!-” makes no sense what so ever, sorry if this is harsh but it’s true.

TL;DR obvious troll is obvious

Did you read my post? I can’t play Versus and Spartan Ops because I can’t get XBL.

you still have forge

Did you read my edit? I’m pretty sure in 3 months you can save up for 3 months of live, if you don’t have internet, then i’m sorry, Halo is a multiplayer Based game, it’s your own fault for missing out on the full experience, if you can afford $60 to buy the game, you can afford an internet connection and xbox live. I’m sorry but if your parents let you buy the game, then why are you not allowed to play xbox live?

Best thing you could do is to try to convince your parents to let you get XBL and tell them about the parental settings and if they don’t let you and you still feel as if Halo 4 has a lack of content then you should rent the game for the campaign instead of buying it.

You didn’t read his post did you cosmic…

Try saving the 48 hour gold card and on the 10th week download it. Maybe it will work.

you get splitscreen, forge, and the first 5 missions of spartan ops. so its not TOO BAD.

> you still have forge

Haha… Not funny bro.

> you still have forge

And what use is Forge if I can’t play Versus? Even if I build a super awesome map, it’ll never see any use.

  • Forge with three environments for the ultimate, non-repetitive experience with tonnes of fantastic maps to be made.
  • Long, awesome Halo campaign.

It’s probably worth getting if you play with others often and enjoy Halo’s story. And also, for if you get Xbox Live any time soon.

Buy a European copy of Halo 4 and you’ll be able to play it when you’re 16.

What use is horde? you could get to a super high round and nobody would care because you can’t use the online leaderboards, silly argument.

Let me get this straight, so your parents wont allow you to have xbox live, but they will allow you to play one of the most gore induced games on the xbox, no offence it doesn’t make much sense, it’s not Halo’s fault that your missing out on content, the game is marketed towards people who have xbox live.

I can still enjoy and master Horde on my own.

I could build all sorts of maps with Forge, but I’ll never get to play those with anyone.

I’m confused about this also. If anything, Multiplayer is the happy part of the game. Perhaps your parents have a ‘Call of Duty’ mindset? They think all multiplayer’s play like Call of Duty which is bad for people under-age.

If he’s -Yoink!- and his parents are worried about him playing online then he cant access the majority of the the co-op story…did you even read his post?

@OP what about getting a 48 hour gold code to download the whole spartan ops in one go?

If I have one lying about I’ll gladly message it to you if it would help…

Exactly what part of “I have -Yoink!-, so there’s no way my parents are going to let me play games online” Didn’t you understand? Did you even bother to read his post at all? Or did you just come here wanting to be a jerk to somebody?

you get lots of you know what

It’s about the gameplay, not specifically multiplayer.

Horde: I have enemies to kill and a learning curve to master.

Forge: What can I do after I build the map? Walk around it on my own?
