COMPLAINS
- No more low and high parts of the helmet visible like in H4, it made immersion better without visibility problem.
- Uses Reach’s assault rifle, it looks less refined and sleek, the ammo counter too high. Plus sound less impactful than H4’s awesome AR.
- Why hitmarkers ? The blood and screams of the ennemies already tell you when your hits lands. It’s totally useless, and worse it distracts because it’s something that moves in the middle of the screen.
- The new VK78 commmando rifle does not look like a Halo gun, mainly because it doesn’t share the bullpup design of the rest of UNSC’s arsenal.
- Pulse carbine’s sounds too weak and look too much like the Storm Rifle, and thus look too much like the Covenant Carbine and not alien enough. Reach’s Plasma repeater would have been a better choice.
- The shotgun looks too different from the original Halo shotgun design.
- Sprint. You have to press a button and it lowers your weapon when increasing the general speed would be much better.
- The brute at the end is kinda presented as the main villain, but lacks personality. It’s the final chapter of this trilogy and we’re fighting this dude that comes out of nowhere ? He will probably be replaced by Cortana in the second half of the game anyway.
GOOD POINTS
- Better art direction, with brighter colors (elite and brute minors are blue while majors are red again, and they stand out more), better models (elites look like agile and noble warriors again), and most of the stuff looks like Halo again. I wish they kept H4’s beautiful squared scope for the BR though…
- The Banished are a great replacement for the Covenant. I even wish they replaced them since H4 !
- Open levels in campaign are interesting and set the game appart from the others.
- Graplin hook looks fun ! More verticality ! Grabing and throwing fusion cores is a great idea !
- New guns look fun.
- New music sounds great !
- No more aim-down-sights for non-precision weapons !
I don’t play play matchmaking multiplayer, so I don’t care that it’s free-to-play, but I hope that the campaign will be worth the 60 €/$/£ of a brand new AAA game.
