When playing reach for the first time, I thought it was really cool how I go to see my own customized spartan in these cutscenes and scenarios and since then I’ve always wanted more. When playing campaign for the first time obviously only let players play as intended characters but after finishing the campaign (maybe even on legendary difficulty just to add a bit of flare and feeling of accomplishment) give players the choice to put their own customized spartan in place of chief and/or whoever you would normally be playing. Obviously the dialogue would be interesting since the characters wouldn’t change voice lines but i always thought it would be a cool little addition/Easter egg nonetheless.
A similar idea I thought would be cool is in coop the host plays as chief while the others play there custom spartan.
A better idea is to leave chief in for so that the overall narrative would make more sense in the grand scheme of the halo universe. BUT… add a DLC later on for a newbie spartan learning the ropes and thrown into combat. That would make our customized mulitplayer spartan much more special, would make the campaign more intimate and personal. Most of all, a fresh perspective would really be nice. Getting to discover the halo universe and all the worlds/aliens that are in it along side our clueless selves in game that are also still learning the ropes.
Since Halo Infinite is a 10 year project that is supposed to have a very long support cycle, 343 PLEASE make it happen.

I still hold the view that spartan ops should return and serves as basically this mode. I also think an odst and marine option is a great addition to add more replay value and allow for players to create cool new stories. The options for campaign theatre machinema are lacking imo

i agree, but i feel like thats just a completely different game at that point. The way i’ve always imagined it was in a way that shouldn’t be too hard to integrate, since it’s literally just rendering another spartan

It really isn’t a hard thing to do when coop is a feature and custom Spartans are also fully implemented. So to have it function in campaign shouldn’t be hard to do at all

I guess we might see a bit of this in the academy. I wouldn’t want it to be cutscene heavy though, I doubt it will be, so it wouldn’t really fill this desire. I totally agree though, maybe there will be a campaign DLC where it borrows this idea from reach, especially possible due to the focus on spartan customisation. a counterpoint to that would be that they have made the multiplayer customisation so colourful and cartoonish that it would be out of place in a story setting. idk, i’m just rambling.

That would be neat!
It could work as a fun non-scoring Skull you can activate in the lobby.
Perhaps in co-op, it would apply automatically, fitting with their vision of more player expression. What’s the point in playing with your friends if all you see is a bunch of Chiefs?
Given the cutscenes most likely rendered in-engine, I see no reason your Spartan can’t replace Chief, with your buddies appearing in the background. It depends on how much effort they would want to put into it. They could go as far as having different animations for them based on the number of players there are?

A skull would be a good way of doing it to be honest. Makes it non-canon but entirely possible to implement.

It makes sense given that the skulls are already a gateway to campaign customisation in themselves.
A mode similar to Spartan ops would be great

Just a hunch, but 343 has been heavily alluding to Multiplayer possibly having it’s own storyline. I think there’s more to multiplayer than meets the eye

That would be really cool to see, maybe even get a male and female to voice all of chiefs lines if you did do this

i think this would be the best way to implement it tbh

War Games is still in full affect bro…
Are you talking about Spartan Ops? Because I loved that. Idk why everyone hated it, it was Firefight with story. Campaign 2. It was sick

no i was talking about war games. canonization of multiplayer modes isn’t the move imo. Spartan ops was pretty good from what i played back in the 360 days.

I can see how it would be annoying for the folks who don’t really give a bag o’ beans about lore or storyline, I feel like adding lore into Multiplayer would only add to the expanding universe in all beneficial ways. It makes me feel like what I do actually matters and has weight in the story, like it’s not just headcanon and fanfiction but a loved and appreciated and official part of the game itself. I’m also just a huge lore nerd though so, i’m biased on that front lol!
It looks like the Fractures events are going to be non-canon, or assumedly so.
I think they will take the same approach that some MMORPG’s take. You have a main storyline with characters and alongside there are references to champions/heroes that helped win certain battles.
Wouldn’t be odd that we have a storyline focused on master chief but on the side we hear about the victories the other Spartans had, helping chief progress through the story, and those Spartans would be us =)
