My Challenge for Neil Davidge

Davidge, here is my challenge for you. If your music is good enough that when I put Halo 4 in the disc I listen to the music at the menu for more than a few minutes and begin to cry, I will call you a worthy successor to Marty. Every Halo since 1, even Halo Wars (which had awesome music by the way), I have sat at the menu and listened every time I put in the disc. I feel like Marty needed to leave the franchise, Reach was the only game that didn’t drive me to tears as I sat at the menu. I think that showed how his music was beginning to fade. Now I know, that’s kind of weird that I would cry. I’m very sensitive, don’t make fun of me  So yes, Neil Davidge, your goal is to make a 15 year old guy cry, get it done.

> I hope you don’t mind if I ask what kind of emotion Marty’s music made you cry about? Ex. Grief, nostalgia etc.

Probably nostalgia, I don’t really know. It just makes me feel good, which is weird, why do you ask? lol

What if he punches you in the face while you listen does that count?

Probably the beauty behind the music. That’s what I liked so much about it anyway.

> What if he punches you in the face while you listen does that count?

Uh, I don’t think I’d like that…

Davidge, here is my challenge for you: If you deliver a Pizza Hut large stuffed crust cheese pizza to me on the night Halo 4 releases and I’m sitting down to play it for the first time, I will call you a worthy successor to whoever the OP is talking about.

> Just curious. People interpret it differently.

It’s like when you look at a beautiful landscape. It just makes you emotional.

Martin O’Donnell? The composer from the last 5 Halo’s. Neil is the new composer who is taking over the music for Halo 4.

Are you telling me you don’t know the legendary Martin O’Donnell?

Not on a personal level, no. Have heard of him though. It was a joke ma boy.

Don’t be foolish, one does not simply enjoy music without having experiences to have applied it to.

All I’m saying is, if you beat the campaign then listen to the music over again then it’ll have more meaning because you have a mental memory attached to that song. Same reason why Unforgotten or Heavy Price Paid in Halo 2 can be very emotional, not only because of the score but because of the moment it was played in the game and how meaningful it was.

The emotional moment would be putting Halo 4 in for the first time.

Haha that’s a relief for a second there I thought you were serious.

Cry within a few minutes of first hearing it? That is rather…erm…challenging.

Not necessarily. Turn your volume up to max and see just how easy it is!

I have no doubt in Neil Davidge. His past work is incredible, and can’t wait to hear the music for Halo 4!

If he manages to hit the brown note then I guarantee you’ll be in tears.
