Hi all
I finished the Halo Infinite campaign yesterday along with all the collectables and side missions etc and im just wanting to discuss the campaign with others on the forum and share my opinion of the experience and see what others thought aswell so here it goes…
I thought the story was a massive improvement from halo 5 it couldnt have been easy for the writers to get out of that corner they were backed into with the terrible choice of writing for halo 5 which took the halo games in a awful direction!
I believe there biggest mistake in halo 4 was killing of the didact off so quickly or atleast taking him out of the games so quickly anyway as i understand he wasnt actually dead at the end of halo 4 game and masterchief and blue team went to get him in a book which released after the halo 4…
thats another issue i have with 343 halo games but il get to that shortly…
also as if some decisions in halo 4 weren’t bad enough halo 5 came along and made the worst story ever which was also accompanied by some huge plot holes…
blue team appeared to be back with chief out of nowhere?! So anyone who hadn’t read the books and only played games were asking who are these?! Where have they been this whole time?! If there original spartans who trained with chief and were alive this whole time why werent they around to help him save earth in halo 2 and 3?! …
Previous halo games of bungies always give off the impression master chief was the only original spartan left and thats what made him so bad -Yoink!-! It also made the gamer feel bad -Yoink!- knowing there playing as the only spartan the only chance of saving humanity as this super soldier who has survived so many battles!..
Halo 5 also introduced fire team osirus… this caused the players to be split between playing master chief and spartan locke also trying to tell a story from 2 different points of view but failed miserably as spartan lockes character just lacked well…character and with him being pitted against master chief it made the players not want to like him from the start… but for me the even bigger mistake in halo 5 was having the main villain be Cortnana!
Back from the grave and now twisted and hell bent on changing the order of the galaxy and keeping everyone in place! This totally undone all that well written and emotional story from halo 4 one of the few things they did get right in halo 4!
So your following clues throughout halo 5 that cortnanas alive and you eventually see her as your more than half way through the game! This portrayal of cortana in my opinion was the worst idea ever not only because of the undoing of halo 4’s story and emotional but complete ending but also because fans of the previous halo games loved this character she was by chiefs side in every game we played they were a great team and halo 4 really dived into her mentality and the chiefs for the first time ever and allowed both charactere to start opening up emotionally! the whole “promise me when this is over you will figure out which one of us is the machine” line was brilliant as you have this A.I with more emotion and feeling than this human being who should be more than capable of emotion but has been raised to be more like a battle hardened machine and isn’t familiar with the concept of showing emotion…
halo 5’s ending left me wondering where the hell can they go from here I wasn’t liking the idea of them dragging that whole story out much longer and having us continue to hunt and possibly kill a evil cortnana the whole halo 5 story just felt like a lazy last minute idea so i had my doubts and concerns for halo infinite…
When i started infinite my main concern and biggest question was how have they handled this whole Cortana story?! I was dying to see if they done something amazing with it i had so many threories and so did many other fans who are part of this forum…
What if cortnana in halo 5 wasnt herself?! what if when she enetered the forunner system in halo 4 she got corrupted?! What if the didact somehow corrupted her knowing she was in the system?! Or what if it was some sort of delayed effect from the logic plague?! Maybe they can use this new A.I the weopn to not delete Cortna but cure her?! Merge them together?! Maybe the weapon has a programme within her to fix a possibly corrupted Cortnana?! Then they can introduce the flood into halo infinite aswell and maybe even the gravemind?!..
Any of these theories could have been used to show us that evil cortana in halo 5 was not our original beloved psychic who we said our final goodbyes to at the end of halo 4 i honestly just wanted cortnan back to her normal self and back with chief like the good old days the same cortana who helped you thorugh halo CE, halo 2, halo 3 and halo 4 and shared all thos experiences with the chief…
As i played theough infinite wondering if any of these theories would be brought to light i spent alot of time also wondering the open zeta halo ring which in my opinion was gorgeous and a breath of fresh air im glad 343 kept the map to a substantial size and didnt try and make this oversized map thats riddled with loads of locations and side quests cause in my opinion games like that get very repetative and boring very quick! i feel its been a massive mistake ubisoft made with there assassins creed games and many other games of theres and im glad 343 didnt follow in there footsteps to much!
After completing the campaign and all the side objectives and collectables etc i put down my controller and decided the main story ark concerning Cortnana and the weapon was good but nothing to memorable im glad they wrapped up the Cortnana story ark the way they did and didnt drag it out any further or even make terrible story decisions in halo 5 however i personally would have prefered if one of the many theories mentioned above was used to create more of a shocking twist but as i said im just glad they wrapped it up and didnt make it worse…
Another issue i had with the main story was that there was nothing explaining what happened with blue team or osirus or laskey etc were they definitely all killed?! If so we should be shown this in some way or form throughout the game if theres one thing i hoped 343 learmed form halo 5 its plotholes! Stop leaving things like this out of games or putting it into other content outside of games i didnt like that blue team and osirus were randomly thrown into halo 5 but i want to know why they are no longer in the halo games and shown confirmation of this and mention it in game being cofirmed!
Atriox missing from halo infinite - at first i was angry that Atriox this big character they hyped up for halo infinite amd showed of in halo wars 2 was believed to be dead and died off screen… thankfully as we got to the post credits scene we see he is alive however this choice of direction was very off putting again they had this character brought into halo wars 2 and made out he and his banished will be the biggest threat in halo infinite only to show him in one cutscene at the start of the game then never again till a post credit scene… bit of a odd choice in my opinion but hopefully we see more of him and get some answers in future DLC…
The promethians and gaurdians - where were all them?! I wasnt keen on promethians in previous games as they just felt very unbalanced to play against in previous games but how can you have the story of halo 4 and 5 set around these forunners and promethians then just totally wipe them from the next installment?! You see gaurdians briefly in a cutscene with Cortnana yes but thats about it theres no sign of the gaurdians or promethians at all in halo infinite apart from a crashed gaurdian on the halo ring in the (distance) arent the promethians and gaurdians still out there and active patrolling planets and causing chaos?! Arent they still a threat thats still in existence?!
The weapon - i honestly didnt think id like her character i thpught she seemed to over the top in trailers and to cheesey but she slowly grew on me and as the plot thickened with her character and Cortnana and the story came to an end i was satisfied with the conclusion of the weapons story as i said above im just glad they didnt go in another direction and make the story worse i was hoping the weapon might have been a cure to cortnana and they wpuld merge her with the corrupted cortnana to cure her and bring her back to her original state but the story didnt go like that and there was no fan theory came to light that Cortana had even been corrupted etc
The endless - as interesting as these may seem my biggest concern is should 343 really be bringing yet another species of enemies into the halo games?!.. they clearly couldnt keep up with there own story of the forunners and promethians who were introduced in halo 4 and 5, they were also unbalanced as hell in terms of gameplay and were then suddeny dropped with no explanation in halo infinite due to there story ending up such a mess…
So is it really a good idea that they complicate and overwhelm themselves again by bringing in yet another species of enemies in future halo games or dlc when they couldnt even keep up with the forerunners, promethians and gaurdians sfter being introduced into the halo games…
Ending/post credits scene - so masterchief and the weapon went through a portal amd jumped forward by 3 days?! I always suspected time travel would somehow end up in this game in some way or form… interesting to see where they go from here but i always had a theory chief would find a way to go back in time in infinite to a time just before all the unsc and other supporting cast members were wiped outt and bring them back into the story however il be honest i prefer chiefs really the only one left out there i think its way better when he was the only spartan around kicking -Yoink!- soldiers seemed to admire him more in previous games and it just made his character feel even more bad -Yoink!- and unique!..
Theres theories that in the post credit scene atriox is releasing the endless… theres also theories that atriox jumped through time aswell and thats how hes back from the dead or went missing and was pressumed dead…
Also on legendary you hear voices during this scene a voice says offensive bias has been deployed… so will the endless be freed will offensive bias and master chief be a allies?!
There was something else in the system on zeta halo watching the weaopon throughout the game and she also picked up on signals but they were very old she says… also who made the portal appear at the end of the game so the weapon and cheief could escape?! Offensive bias?! Who knows we shall hopefully see in DLC or the next halo game…
