My BIG recommendation for Halo matchmaking

Let me get straight to the point. 343 is trying to appease to every single player which is great, but they’re going about it the wrong way. Instead of fusing Pro settings with Infinity gameplay, or creating a “classic”-feel gameplay with Legendary Slayer on maps that are still designed for Infinity, they need to just separate the two completely.

I enjoy both Infinity and the old-school classic Halo gameplay. What I don’t enjoy is going to Infinity Slayer and getting stuck with Pro settings or going to Legendary Slayer and still seeing weapon-indicators on my HUD.

Here is my recommendation for Halo matchmaking:

3 categories of playlists (Classic, Infinity & a third category for which I do not have a cool name yet.)

Classic - (Team Slayer, Big Team Battle, FFA, Team Objective)

  • No Loadouts
  • No AA’s
  • No POD
  • No Instant Respawn
  • Weapons on map with static respawn and no indicators on HUD
  • A Secondary that functions as a secondary and not a primary
  • Reduced radar range

Infinity - (Team Slayer, Big Team Battle, FFA, Team Objective)

  • Current Infinity settings of Halo 4

3rd Category - (Team Snipers, SWAT, Infection, Action Sack, Rocket Race)

Bring back Halo 3 voting system. If you don’t like the map/gametype you may veto, but then are stuck with the choice that is selected next. Players NOT allowed to back out.

DLC search option. Allow you to search for players with the same DLC as you for better chance of getting DLC maps.

All of these innovations are too hard to do for Halo 4 because of the current population, but may be introduced in the next game when some of the fans who have left have come back.

What are you thoughts? Like? Dislike? Please list constructive comments below.

Agree with all that is said, however the DLC search mechanic is sort of pointless since the game automatically tries to do this in the first place.

OT this would keep everyone happy without the casual, classic or competitive players (the 3 C’s of Halo) being ignored

Thank you. I’m glad you agree. I disagree that I think the DLC search option would be pointless. Maybe I should explain that a little more.

If your DLC search option it is on, it will search and search and search until it finds enough players with the same DLC. Right now, it will search, but if it can’t find anything then it will just stick you with you someone else.

If they implemented the DLC search option, wait times may be longer, but then you are guaranteed to get in matches where DLC maps may can be played.

343 needs to cater to the already existing Halo fanbase instead of mimicking other games in an attempt to bring in other players.

While I wouldn’t complain one bit if 343 decided to go back to a Halo 3-style of gameplay, it would be arrogant to think that’s the way that all Halo fans want to happen.

If you completely separated the two, however, you can then appease the classic lovers as well as the Infinity lovers.

Infinity players are part of the fanbase now, so I don’t want it scrapped completely, just improved.

Isn’t Infinty in general a mimic of a vast majority of FPS games? More specifically, COD with its perks, loadouts, POD and sprint?

Just go back to CLASSIC HALO, Reach and H4 were an experiment and it failed, just like the population on H4. Reach is my favorite Halo MP, but for the sake of the franchise lets get the population back, and the only way to do that is to go back to H2, and H3 style gameplay.

Why not cater to all thus strengthening the franchise? Most classic fans forget that by doing this they are putting casuals through the same thing they experienced where they’re ignored by 343. If anything the experiment was successful yet wasn’t popular.

Also halo 2 and 3 gameplay isnt classic it’s a midpoint between CE and 4

Yes, but the damage is done. 343 shouldn’t forget the players who actually liked it. All they can do is make it better.
