Just wanted to leave my thoughts on the beta. Let’s start with what I didn’t like.
- Not a huge fan of the way the AR sounds, a minor complaint but something that annoyed me.- The countdown timer for the power weapons. I would see teammates sitting by the rocket spawn with 30secs left when they could be helping the team in that time. Also in the other Halo games you had to periodically check to see if the power weapons were there instead of them just being handed to you.- Either the grenades are too powerful or they don’t give you enough warning when they’re near you. I feel like I would hardly ever get killed by a grenade in the other Halo games but in the beta it just seemed nonstop. Also, dat grenade spam.- DMR on Truth seemed like it was a little OP at times; also, why is there a DMR on Truth and not a Carbine?- Spartan call outs are fine, but there needs to be more voice options. Also if you’re gonna have them celebrating at the end of a win, don’t just have one animation that is seen over and over, get’s boring after a while.- The shield recharge delay when sprinting and the issue of not being able to sprint correctly when shields are down. My shield would be down and I would try to run but half the time it seem that I couldn’t and would have to stop moving completely and then start running. For the recharge delay, you could almost be down with it, then start to run and the recharge bar would fill all the way back up. The recharge bar should decrease and if you start running or boosting it should just freeze where it’s at, not restart completely.- Sword is too bright and looks weird. I can get over the looks, but the glow on it needs to be turned down from a 10 to like a 5 or 6.- Ranking system seems unfair to the point where I don’t wanna play unless I have a full team that I know. It seems like it’s random too, like if you win you go up +7, but lose and you get -14. There needs to be a constant range, not just random numbers. If you win then +10 and if you loose then -10 or something. Also the lack of player accountability. If a player goes 20/5 k/d but still looses because someone went 5/20, they’re gonna loose a lot of rank points because of that one player. If you’re going keep the same system that is in place currently, then the good player should go -5 in rank and the lowest player should get -15 or whatever. I liked Halo 3’s rank system, but this just seems unforgiving.- More customization options. I know it’s a beta, but I feel like there’s a lot of reusing of Halo 4 armor. I’m fine with it, but just don’t have the Halo 4 armor outweigh the new Halo 5 armor.- Seemed like the servers started freaking out there during the last week, don’t wanna see that in the final game like in the MCC.- Sun on Orion seems just a little bit too bright.- Not enough time to -Yoink!- in Breakout after round finishes.- Having to read the names of guns when you pick them up instead of it being an image. I don’t have time to read what I’m picking up in a firefight.- Grenade launcher doesn’t need to be lock on. All you have to do is lock on and light the player up.Now for what I did like.
- Gameplay was fun minus a few issues that were mentioned above. Felt like Halo should but a little bit different. I would like to see a playlist though that removed the sprint, boost, and clamber, like an OG playlist.- The game looks nice despite having some frame rate issues with the pelicans flying around in the background on Empire.- Game types are fun. I usually only play TDM in COD or Halo, but the new game types introduced in the beta were more fun than just TDM. Granted some players would still try to just get kills instead of capping a point in Strongholds, but that’s expected.- Most of the maps are well designed and easy to navigate once you play on them a couple times. The only map I didn’t like was Pegasus, but I only played on it twice, so maybe I just haven’t warmed up to it yet.All in all I had fun with it and will buy it on release day, but I do wish some things would get changed in the final product. Anyway just my thoughts.
