My Beta Feedback

The below consists of my current feedback after around 20 hours of gameplay:

  • My lord, SPAWNS in this game have fully gone CoD… I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve progressed along the map, checking my corners, get the jump on someone and as soon as the engagement begins, enemy players spawn all around me (and kill me). It feels unfair and frustrating. Killed inexplicably from behind way too often.
  • EXP progression system is broken. No one plays the objective because everyone is too busy running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off trying to progress their challenges (which have NOTHING to do with the game at hand). So the game rewards players ONLY for doing things antithetical to the actual game. EXP should be earned for just playing a match, in addition to kills/scores, metals AND challenges.
  • Plasma pistol needs EMP. That was the ability which made it a valid utility item in the sandbox. Now it’s literally only useful for n00b combo.
  • Needler has been nerfed from 4/5 in a major way
  • The Commando still feels like it needs retooling. It’s alright at removing shields, but for whatever reason it feels like you then need 3 more headshots to actually kill
  • The dropshield… What is the point of this? It’s literally useless. Just give it the same functionality as the Halo: Reach bubble shield which can take damage as a whole and eventually pop, but not in segments as the dropshield currently works and certainly with a bit more health than it currently has. Because it can take like a single round at this point, and it take forever to deploy - in such a fastpaced game, it’s just not helpful.
  • Bulldog is not good. It’s a shotgun for Pete’s sake, at point blank it should be a one shot no matter what. If they want to make it a two shot at even like a foot then fine, but that two shot range should extend for some distance before trickling into three shot. As it currently stands, I’m freaking pumping out 4+ rounds to kill a dude, and when it takes that long as your being double teamed, it totally negates the whole point of a CQB weapon which is to be able to turn the flow around at close range under what would be overwhelming force. Very similar feedback to the Heatwave.
  • AR’s range should be shortened by like 10-25%. I’m fine with it’s damage, but the range at which you can engage devolves 4v4 into a big AR kill box right at spawn.
  • Power weapons in general just seem weak and ineffective. Hydra should be buffed. Most brute weapons should be buffed. As it is, not much is worth using other than the AR & pistol starts, which negates the whole design philosophy of Halo which pits players against one another in an arena in order to compete for power items.
  • Sword range needs to be increased

Please add in with your feedback. This is the whole point of a Beta and 343i is certainly listening to the forums so use your voice to make this game as good as possible at launch!

Pretty much agree with all of this. The sandbox in general seems super diverse in theory, except only a handful of those weapons are viable, and on small 4v4 it essentially boils down to the AR, nades and a couple other niche weapons. It’s a little better in BTB but plenty of what I’d typically call power weapons barely seem to pack a punch. Aside from the Spankr & Sniper I don’t tend to go for anything other than maybe a BR (or Commando, but they need to reverse it’s nerf) because most things are less effective except for in extremely niche circumstances.

Yeah, I feel like some of these points were made during the Technical Preview, at which time 343i said they were under consideration. But it doesn’t seem like a lot was done in between then and now. Really hoping for a general tune up prior to launch. It’s hard to imagine what the reasoning behind the current balancing is.
