…being SERIOUSLY hindered by the fact that there is sooo much deadspace within the analog sticks on the xb1 controller…
Was this implemented on purpose to either offer artificial difficulty in aiming? or to force competitive players to buy the brand new elite controller (which allows you to adjust this setting.) Or is it just me?
Don’t believe me? Test for yourself, twitch your right analog stick back and forth with slight movement and see that your reticle doesn’t even move.
It almost feels like input lag but I know it isn’t. Is anyone else bummed out about this situation? (Casual players most likely haven’t noticed yet.)
EDIT: 343 has released this statement in the weekly update!!!
"One thing that has become clear in absorbing all your feedback is that Halo players want choice when it comes to controls. And with that in mind, we are also working on another little pet project that will allow even more precise tuning. This update will offer more custom fine-tuned control over controller settings (hint: independent vertical/horizontal sensitivities, the ability to calibrate your own dead zones, more granularity in sensitivity, and more). We hope to have that out for you in December and we will follow up with more details later. "

You can adjust the dead zone on the triggers, not the sticks.
are you serious? i gotta test this when i get home. yesterday i was having the HARDEST time aiming and i thought it was just less auto aim/ aim assist. why is there so much deadspace only on xb1 controller and not the elite?

Because the elite can adust and fine tune a bunch of different things on the controller. Although, I am not sure if it can remove the dead zone at all. Haven’t tried adjusting my sticks yet.
Well, my problem isn’t my controller (apart from the fact that it’s held together with tape). My problem is fluidity of movement, jump shots, flick shots and the hit-boxes. SWAT is unplayable because of it. You can’t snap into hit-boxes anymore (interp them is the technical term). The game just has no rhythm anymore. I was hot -Yoink- on SWAT on Halo 4. I could snap into that sweet spot on that hit-box from halfway across the map no problem. Now there isn’t a hit-box, just the player model - narrow and impossible to hit at distance. Halo 5 make my -Yoink- itch.

Do you have titanfall? If you do go into the pilot training module, then go into controller setting and find the option “look drift guard” (this is essentially an option to change the size of your deadzone)
It has 3 setting Off/Low/High.
With off, you may find your reticle is slowly moving even when you arent touching the sticks.
With high you will notice small adjustments are difficult to make and aiming feels a bit jerky.
With low (which is the default setting for titanfall) you will see your controller responds fairly well even to small movements and you have really good precision.
This isnt a sensitivity issue, its a deadzone issue. Halo’s default deadzones are very high, and there is no option to change them. 343 either needs to make the default deadzones smaller or give us the ability to adjust them.
I’m using the Elite controller and aiming has been problematic as well. I’ve been on cruise ships that feel more nimble than trying to aim and gun down a player using a ghost in this game.
I thought it was maybe because i was using the longer control stick and not being used to it that I had to learn my way through it but it didn’t get better for me swapping out for a short stick.
The challenge with full controller optimization is you can fix one thing and break something else. Maybe I will use the second profile to experiment around a bit. I feel kind of relieved seeing these threads, I know the aim assists have been greatly diminished but my experience with the ghost isn’t in that realm.
I’ll be curious to see how I adapt to the elite controller that shows up today, I’m pretty poor at aiming anyways so it could go either way but more customization would be nice.

It’s not the controller. It’s the game code. Notice the same problem does not exist in MCC.
Some call it deadzone, I call it Aim acceleration, but most of us notice something is seriously off with this game compared to the Alpha. What would be our best course of action to notify 343I in a civil way? I’ve tried a couple of tweets, but to no avail. After like 11 hours of play I still can’t aim for -Yoink- and it sure as hell isn’t the low aim assist. It sucks, because I am getting tired of the game already and so are a lot of people I play with. Would be a shame if the game actually lost players because of such a seemingly trivial thing.

You can actually. You can change the sensitivity curves as well
Ahh, its not just me, i see. All day yesterday i was thinking “What the hell is wrong with my aim? I have never had this bad of aim in shooters…” Typically my overall shooter KD (like in cod) is around 2.0. Im struggling in H5 though lol. Positive KD but just barely! Hope they fix it…

This. Don’t see a reason for the change in aim acceleration in the first place. Decreased aim assist already increases aiming difficulty, no reason to overcompensate.
