I’m sure there are a lot of mixed opinions on the new forge - controls, layout, etc. I really like it, it brings me back to the days when i would spend hours on end editing maps for PC games. But that’s not the point of this. Hopefully this is the proper place for such a thread (i apologize if this is not, but i couldn’t find a feedback specific forum, only the ability to sign up for the program).
In previous forges we have been given exact replicas of structures that were elements of our beloved classics - BR 1/2/3 from lockout, bases from bloodgultch, etc. I’m surprised they aren’t rampant in the inventory as of yet. I can understand wanting to push people to reimagine as opposed to recreate. With that in mind, from my perspective, i feel as though adding a feature that allows you to SAVE grouped/welded objects to a master inventory would be a great addition - including the ability to assign a name to your saved grouping. I’m working on two separate breakout maps and it was kind of a buzzkill to have to recreate some more complex/layered structures from scratch then thought “it’d be awesome if i could save this grouping and spawn it in its entirety on other maps in the future”. This would also open up an avenue for players to share their structures so others can use them as well!
Lastly, not sure if this is my misinterpretation or misinformation, but why can’t we actually mirror massive groupings - we can only rotate them 180*. In breakout, Crossfire is a mirrored map whereas Elevation and Trench are 180* rotations when you cross the field at the 50 yard line. Creating half the map, grouping it, then mirroring it is an effective way to create maps faster and much more easily cough RECURVE cough - if 343 can do it why can’t we? Perhaps i’m overlooking it, it could be right under my nose.
I mainly wanted to share the idea I had concerning saving and possibly sharing object groups. Happy Forging!
EDIT: Seriously can’t wait for community playlists to hit matchmaking. Specifically ACTION SACK! Thank chief we finally have forge, i trust the community more than 343 at this point with delivering environments with quality gameplay. I’m not much of a mastermind with asymmetrical layouts but i know someone in the community has that gift, since 343 apparently doesn’t.
EDIT 2: Bug found - For some reason i cannot spawn as red or blue team in forge on my breakout map when editing. Both teams have their spawn points on the launch pad, yet i am stuck outside the skybox and am unable to move or bring up the creation menu. I can check the lobby playerlist/score, but cannot do anything else. After several attempts, pretty much just shooting blindly in the dark, i was able to spawn as both yellow and green teams only. Kind of strange since people with this same problem are encountering it due to a lack of initial spawn points - yet breakout has them already (and they aren’t compromised by being covered with objects or structures). Thought i’d share. Perhaps a force-spawn at specific coordinates that applies only to forge will be a good solution. Maybe this is because you start the game as a monitor and not a spartan, meaning you don’t have access to spawn on those points? Yet you cannot switch to spartan mode after you have been glitched outside the skybox.
EDIT 3: Bug found - After reloading one of my breakout maps i realize one of the more complex grouping doesn’t have the option to be selected anymore. I can no longer duplicate, move, rotate, or delete this grouping. Unfortunately i will have to recreate this structure from scratch and will have to make my dues with no longer being able to make micro adjustments to ensure this structure is accessible from various obstacles and structures that surround it - now i have to design the rest of the environment around it
I’m sure this is a temporary deal, but i thought I might as well include it. I have a video recorded and ready for upload if further elaboration is needed.
