"mutual beat-downs, bullet spread, and informational droughts"

I was reading the bulletin and this statement really caught my eye, could this be hinting at the return of a hit-scan utility weapon like the (post TU) Halo 2 BR? And that they’re removing melee lunge for Halo 4, or bringing back the Halo 2 melee system? What do you think?

I was intrigued by this too. But going back to Halo 2’s ways would surely be too good to be true.

Here’s a story for you, I had some issues signing on here a few months back and was emailing bs angel for some assistance (without having a clue about her exact line of work at the time, haha! I thought she was just another MS Admin - I used her actual name in the conversations)

Anyway, I dropped that Halo 2 was my favourite game and she told me she uses the H2 nameplate. So I’m just guessing it’s her favourite Halo and that Halo 4 will be nothing like Halo 2. I’m pessimistic on the off chance that I’ll be pleasantly surprised. :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope they return to the melee system of Halo 2!!!

I’ve noticed on this forum everybody is pulling for a more Halo 2 style to be brought back and it makes me so happy. Back when I was on the bungie forums you got jumped on by everybody on the forum just for trying to say anything good about Halo 2 and nobody agreed, here it seems almost everybody is at a mutual agreement

It does seem too good to be true, but with how badly Reach turned out, and the fact that this is 343’s first Halo release they really can’t afford to take any chances with Halo 4. I wouldn’t be too surprised if they wen’t back to Halo 2 styled gameplay.

That’s your problem right there. Those forums were a steaming pile of you know what.

I think it was just creative prose… I don’t think it’s anything to take to the bank, we’re all just over thinking this :).

Were they not talking about the random spread of weapons in Reach partly due to bloom, the flawed beat down or melee system of Reach: 2 hits to kill with even the slightest bit of your shield stillr remaining- no bleedthrough, and lack of information I guess for Halo 4 that everyone’s so disgruntled about?

no

God, I hope not. Anything short of the post TU Halo 3 or Halo Reach melee system is too susceptible to lag issues.

How? The Halo 2 system was perfect. A standing melee depleted 1/3 shields, a running melee depleted 2/3, and a falling melee depleted all shields. I don’t see how this would be susceptible to lag, it worked in Halo 2 so why wouldn’t it work with Halo 4 and it’s vastly improved netcode?

I thought you were talking about the “first person to hit the melee button wins” things from Halo 2. Still, I think the pre-TU melee settings for Halo 2 were less than desirable. Post-TU Halo 3 had it’s melee settings right on, I think.

I just want melee dodging back. Melee’s in Reach connect far too easy.

I’ve been 15 feet away and dropped to a different level to avoid a beat down where it still connected and the other player remained up on the higher level.

It’s far too forgiving and always connects. There is no skill in melee’s in Reach.

Melee lunge: H3. In H2, I find myself not getting the hit on the enemy, stopping in midair. It’s so damn hard to assassinate berserking Brutes because of this. I also end up meleeing at enemies that are behind a supply case or scenery item (also in H3 and Reach).

Or no melee lunge.
Or melee lunge options.

Aim assist: H2 or H1. Enough said. I hate the sticky effect. It’s so annoying.

Information: The Bulletin was good enough for me. Campaign is now playable but not necessarily ready for public release. That’s all I needed to know.
