I might get some hate for this but I think Halo 4 should borrow something from CoD and Battlefield. That something is music in multiplayer.
Now don’t get me wrong, music shouldn’t play through the whole match. The songs would get repetitive and most people would turn it off.
What I’m talking about is music triggered by certain actions or events like time running out or taking the flag. And I believe 343 said they were doing in an interview awhile back.
Marty was strictly against music in multiplayer. Well not strictly because he did put that 10 second clip into invasion whenever you would complete an objective. But that wasn’t even implemented all that well.
Here are some events that music should be out in for: killing sprees, 1 minute remaining, flag taken (different depending on if it’s your or the enemy’s), bomb armed, only 5 kills left, and if the score is really close and the match is about to end.
Already, a cool electronics song plays when only 1 minute remains that heightens the intensity. I think with killing sprees, the music should start off slow with 5 kill then speed up at 10 kills, and then turn into the Halo theme at 15 kills.
If your flag is taken, the song Ascendency should come on until you return it but a more positive beat should come on when you take the enemy flag.
In a slayer match, when the scores are really close at the end 45±45+, some really intense music should come on. Not quick paced music but very heavy. In all the past Halo games, when matches are that close at the end if the game, things get really intense and I think it would be really immersive to put in appropriate music.
Again, all of this should be optional. And again, 343 might be doing a lot of this. I just hope it doesn’t play 10 second music clips when something happened like in Reach’s invasion.
