I wanted this for Reach but it had already come out…
Basically what COD has. The music in Reach dies down when you press start. Some people like me do enjoy the music of Halo and it does get me pumped for matchmaking. I had the soundtrack samples repeating while playing Reach the other day. I’m not saying 343 has to do this but hey, it’ll be a nice addition.

Personally, I enjoyed hearing “Tribute” in the Halo 3 lobby. Was awesome to hear it while I waited with all my buds for the game to load. But while I think Reach has an awesome soundtrack, I don’t care for the music played in the lobby. So having it switch off during search is kind of a way to compromise for those who like it and those who don’t.
Point is, if they can make it optional, sure make it happen during search; but otherwise how it is now is fine IMO.
I don’t know how I feel about this. I love the menu music but I like that it stops when you get into the other lobbies. If it’s terrible and loud like Reach’s I’d hate to have it played all the time. I purposely get into a lobby fast to avoid Reachs menu suite. I don’t even get out of the Halo 2 main menu. I can listen to that for hours on end.
