Music And Sound Design etc

First of all i was so excited to see the big HALO 4 reveal but it blew me and my expectations away its just so smooth and vibrant and all that good stuff

anyways on topic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9fRP4KRL1I (i dont know how to make a linky sad face)

watch the E3 demo ^ and skip to 3:45 or just watch up to the part where he picks up the Lightrifle and Cortana tells him to chase after the drone thingy, most people will be to busy noticing all the cool effects, enemies and the graphics etc but one thing i noticed is how AMAZING the little bits of music are and how they slipped in on cue in typical halo fashion

for that setting in a jungle and with Highly advanced new enemies the Audio couldnt have been more on target

Well done Sotaro Tojima! and the rest of the Audio Department! cant wait to hear MOAR!

P.S Nailed it 343!

the sounds of the weapons sound great but the music on the other hand still hasnt convinced me yet i havnt heard anything that i have liked i keep telling my self maybe when i hear more im sure i’ll like it but i havnt i know a lot of people are loving it but im losing more faith in neil davidge .

Sounds a bit like Ratchet and Clank.

Which is good thing :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually don’t like the new AR sound. To me the AR is a weak weapon, so I think the sound should be weak. Matter of fact, the AR “sounds” more powerful than the BR. I still think the BR sounds muffled.

I think the music sounds really good and sets the atmosphere well.

The sound effects on the other hand drool

Completely agree with you. Sound effects are great but the music so far has been a huge disappointment. I thought I was alone in thinking this until I read this article: http://kotaku.com/5901475/keeping-an-open-mind-about-the-halo-4-soundtrack

The music for Halo 4 so far has no iconic melody or harmonies. It has no feel. It just sounds like typical generic action movie music (not surprisingly the game’s orchestrator Matt Dunkley worked on Inception and The Dark Knight), with repetitive simplistic chords driven by a heavy drum rhythm. Marty O’Donnell used to create a few themes he felt suited the mood of each game which gave them a unique feel, yet all the music somehow said “Halo” as soon as you heard the first notes.

If only we still had Marty and Michael Salvatori composing. Can’t help but wonder how amazing the trailer would’ve sounded. I’m desperately hoping Davidge and Dunkley have written some more memorable music they just haven’t released yet but I’m slowly losing faith.
