Munition Types: What If

As we all know before weapons are picked up we are presented with a brief description of the weapon and how it works. Something like this:

VK-78 Commando
Tactical Rifle / Kinetic/ Auto

My interpretation of this is as follows:

Weapon Name
Weapon Type/ Munition Type/ Firing Mode

In the gameplay demo we saw the player shoot a Brute in the shins with the Commando. As a result the Brute stumbles. What if this was not just a result of localized damage but also a Munition effect.

Munition Effect, yes you read that correctly. What if the type of munition actually has a larger impact on gameplay rather than just simply bullets do more health damage, and plasma does more shield damage?

Here are some different munition types and effects we might see in Halo Infinite:

Kinetic - Heavy rounds that focus on momentum transfer (similar to the Concussion Rifle or Gravity Hammer)

Piercing - High damage rounds, no momentum transfer (Sniper Rifle)

Radioactive - These rounds have a residual effect and do damage over time (Carbine / Fuel Rod Cannon)

Plasma - Superheated Plasma, does extra damage to shields, stuns target (HCE Plasma Rifle)

Reactive - Rounds react violently with flesh (Needler / Needle Rifle)

What are your thoughts? What other munition types would you like to see in Halo Infinite?

The Halo sandbox shouldn’t be turned into Destiny. To me it sounds like that makes everything overly complex but I’m not completely against trying it.

Tbh I think you’ve looked into this a bit too much.

Brute gets shot in shin, it stumbles. No surprise there.

As much as I generally love differing ammo types in games…I don’t think its fits in Halo. We already have that by way of different weapon sets etc.

I honestly think it’s just a nice information pop-up to help new players out, and that’s it.

Dude honestly what if weapons had the customization they did in MW 2019, it would break multiplayer, but it would be neat.

I don’t think that’s what those descriptors are for in Infinite, I think they are just so you can get an idea of what the gun does before you even pick it up.

I don’t think it’s a departure at all. To me it’s more of an evolution of a mechanic that we’ve always had in Halo.

This could mean the return of Plasma Stun, an expansion of the Needle Shard effects, and the introduction of some new things too.

Has Destiny had anything like this, to my knowledge they haven’t. Instead they’ve focused on perks some of which are based on a random ‘roll’ such that two seemingly identical weapons behave quite differently.

I like this idea but I feel like the ammo considered piercing would still fall under kinetic. It’s still using its momentum to both reach the target and inflict damage, as opposed to just the former that might be the case with plasma and radioactive rounds.

I see your point, but I don’t think it’s in the game, nor will it be added soon.

But then what do I know lol.
