I haven’t gotten into the game even though i have owned it since launch (working the 152 grind in Halo 5). Is it worth trying to play match making right now?

Cutter and Decimus are both fairly straightforward leaders, while still being viable. I recommend starting with them.
I used Cutter a lot in the first one. ODST’s for the win!

Yes, Decimus is part of the banished faction, and FYI ODST’s have been changed so you can’t train them, you get them through other means such as ODST drop. But on the plus side now they are even better than ever.

Still I’ve read the game is much better balanced now.

A well balanced game is always a plus. I remember using the prophet and scarabs was always fun in HW1

(2) 3 star scarabs and a 3 star prophet with 10 engineers floating around the group. OWNED lol
Play the tutorial and campaign before you start multiplayer. You will learn valuable skills for multiplayer from campaign.

I know I started with Forge in HW1 but eventually I switched to Prophet and never switched lol
