Multiplayer uses for the D-Pad?

The DPad- four buttons, unused in halo online AT ALL.

a few ideas-
1.lower weapons!!! halo 2 had you just press the down button to lower your weapon and in halo 3, it changed to a random button combination that nobody could remember!

  1. on dark maps, a VISR or night vision thing for left or right?

3.an overhead view of a map
(like the ODST VISR) where allies are shown in green, enemies in red.it would be a real-time birds eye view of the map. you would be vulnerable to attack though and locations/objectives would be shown, you would be able to place waypoints for points of interest.

any other ideas you have would be welcome and feedback on what i said, so, what do you think?

Since the D-Pad directionals are not the most convenient buttons to hit I would use it as a selector.

For example:

Left - Select Plasma Grenades
Right - Select Frag Grenades
Up - Select Equipment
Down - Select Power Grenade

The D-Pad directionals would not actually throw the grenade, just select the type of grenade that you wanted to throw when you pressed the Throw Grenade button.

Equipment and Power Grenades would also be thrown with the Grenade Throw button.

Using the D-Pad as a selector maximizes it’s usefulness by utilizing the 4 directions but not placing any functions that need to be performed extremely quickly.

Moving the grenade selector button from B to the D-Pad would also free up a button for a new feature in Halo 4.

Two things.
Firstly, the D-pad buttons are used, you use them to switch between your team mates, in fire fight it enables night vision.
Secondly, they D-pad SUCKS, unless you go out and buy a third party controler, every game I’ve played that uses the D-pad, I all ways have problems selecting the right thing, cause when I hit the up button, the D-pad thinks I’m trying to hit either the left or right.
I like the fact that Halo has limited uses for the D-pad.

I like the way GoW uses the D-Pad for weapon selection. It’s second nature to me know. I don’t even think about it. I have the silver xbox controller with the adjustable d-pad. The pad is quite pronounced, and I’ve never had issues with it.

I kind of agree here. If I haven’t noticed their lack of use since the first game, I don’t see the need for extra options when it’s already pretty cut and dry.

Have you tried the new ones with the rotating D-Pads?
