Multiplayer uncompetitive?

It seems like, because there exists no type of ranking or rank-based matchmaking, all of the games I play are non-competitive. We win handedly by 20+ kills in slayer, or 3-0 in CTF (or dominate whatever objective it is). Is there any chance 343 will implement some type of matchmaking that will match players with equal or equivalent skill?

All I ever play with is guests, complete noobs, or quitters. Honestly, I’d rather play with bots than the (lack thereof) competition currently.

The matchmaking system for Reach Matchmaking is based on the True Skill system which runs in the background (and is different for each playlist, I think). So, after you play enough games the game will get a batter idea of your skill set and you should start to see more evenly matched games.

This is a fallacy. You can play as many games as you want, the MM system is broke and garbage.

Trueskill is not working properly so competitive games are a thing of the past. Nobody really cares if they win or not. It has nothing to do with CEA, its just that Reach is garbage.

Heres hoping for halo 4 to return to former glories =)

Yeah, sorry Pharm, i just had to let out. :stuck_out_tongue: Still it is pretty accurate description of what Reach comes down to and those who defend to the death >.<.

This is the stock answer and in my experience it’s BS. I’m at the other end of the spectrum. I’m not very good, probably at least in part because I didn’t start playing until I was much older than most people. I’ve played hundreds of games I’m almost always (at least 98% of the time) matched with people who are way better than I am.

If you guys don’t enjoy standard MatchMaking you can always try the MLG playlist and if that does not work out then check out GameBattes to try to find a similar level of competitiveness.

lol pharmassists dont make me capture you.
Reach true skill does a bad job of making matchups not because it is a bad skill system (that is a part of it though) but because there is a huge skill gap in reach.
For instance, count the number of people with a 100BPR then the number of people with a >70 bpr.
BPR’s of 70 - 100 are almost non existant.

And even then amongst the “100 BPRs” there is a HUGE skill gap between about >80% onyx and >50% gold.

This second skill gap can rear its head most visably in arena, mlg, and BTB when searching in large groups.

If you see gamesager (huge banshee -Yoink- notorious for running BTB), unless youre rolling with your crew as well you should just dashboard. My friends and I have made him quit once because we started spawnkilling, but he has defeated us about 4 - 5 times if memory serves.

both of you should consider using the “search by skill” option.
however i read that this isnt the same like the arena trueskill; more washed down.
if it is the arena trueskill system though both of you will get euqal skilled opponents after roughly 20 matches. also note that 20 games are needed atleast. the more games you play the more input the system has. just saying so you dont start complaining if you dont get equal opponents in your first matches

So at first its not broke, then you say “play MLG”

MLG may be competitive, and house the majority of good players, but MM is still broke as crap there to. It seems you are the kind of person that puts a bucket under a leaking roof. This needs to be fixed, do you honestly enjoy getting destroyed in MM so often because of the broken MM system?

All this is invalid. You said Reach has huge skill gap, lol.

And none of this explains the poor MM system. Arena matches good games, but it takes forever to get a game. I got 20% onyx (20%=best ever! I have been saving this for you my friend ;p) on my secondary account. It takes me 30 minutes to find a game so I stopped playing.

I never said it was broken. It seems like people were looking for a more challenging match. With that said I suggested other alternatives to make the game more challenging. That is all I was suggesting. No more, no less.

So if I need to play 20 games, is that 20 games independent to the playlist, or to any “competitive” list? i.e. can I do 10 in Anniversary Squad and 10 in Anniversary Classic?

FYI, I’ve definitely done over 20 in team slayer, and I still get matched up with guests/noobs/quitters and the score ain’t close.

Did you guys consider that it isn’t broken or it may be really competitive just because you’re all so amazing at the game!? You may have god like ability therefore nobody can stand in your way.

You can play a thousand games and still constantly get bad matches/team mates

I testify to this.

Yeah, I hope they make competitive and casual only playlists. Its just not fun to be put up against 3 reclaimers on the enemy team and get destroyed. I mean I do okay but it’s no fun for me to go up against hard-core competitive players. :\

I agree 100%

Nope. There is a ratio of time vs ranking to “attempt” to provide a match of similarly skill players while also a quick search time, although with the low population it just fails. If it’s searching any longer than a minute, there might as well be no trueskill in social. Someone who is on there first game, with 3 guests, can play a team “50s”. And without the party restrictions, 4 random kids on their first game can match a To4 of 50’s. I can personally attest to this as I see it happen all the time.

Also, OP, trueskill is per playlist. Trueskill functions, for arguments sake, just like Halo 3 Ranked. Although the way that the search engine will find players is worse than H3 Social.

True skill isn’t working hard enough, bungie did this so you find games quicker
