Multiplayer + story?

If you have seen the new halo 4 video, then you heard that multiplayer might get a story line, but is that a good idea. As you may know halo hasnt had a story line at all and i dont see how they can put a story into a competitive game where you just want to play with some friends. According to one of the producers of halo 4 you will now have a reason to play red vs. blue, but what does this mean, does it mean that you might be at a training seccion in an academy with other spartans or is it a war between red and blues which doesnt make sence because they need all the spartans they can get, but you never know.

It’s a cool idea, but what it entails, who knows. Of course, since the Defiant Map Pack, it was hinted they wanted to go this route.

I think it would be cool if they kept a map, and on that map was a list of every Halo Multiplayer map.

If you selected a certain map, statistics would show up like:

  • How many hours have been played total on the map.
  • How many Spartans from each side (Red and Blue) have died.
  • How many games have been played total on the map.
  • How many matches each side has won.
  • And then whichever side has more victories on one map “controlls” the map. If one side can take over EVERY map than they have won the war. Then the maps reset and you keep playing.

OR Maybe the storyline multiplayer will have its own playlist in which you choose your army.

Then two maps are chosen every week and you play on ONLY those two maps in that certain playlist. At the end of the week, the side with the most victories on those maps win them. There would be a “game board” or something listing what army controls what maps. One side will win the war if they can take over their enemies capital.

It’s whatever, I think the idea sounds cool anyway, even if it doesn’t get that descriptive. One thing that would be cool though is if they could get deeper into the statistics, like vehicles destroyed on each side, flags captured, bombs detonated, things like that. For vehicles it would be something like . . . you give the vehicle a certain color and if it blows up the game recognizes it and counts it towards the stat.

I better stop now . . .

Keep going. this sounds awesome.

I’ll just say it be a lot easier for 343 to come up with MP story that is more humorous (Red VS Blue anyone?) than it is serious. If they go the serious route, it’s going to be tough to put in a good story without it feeling shoehorned and forced upon the players.

Reach scratched the surface of such ideas with the Invasion gametype and Elites; i wonder how 343 is going to take it a step further. I just hope it doesn’t impact the game’s settings in a negative way; i don’t think many would want a story if your spartan moved slowly and jumped lower.

That’s just my take on things.

If it ends up being like my second option imagine if you could get your own rank for that playlist and etc . . . or maybe have a medal system etc? Like this:

Cpt. SuRroundeD By 1
BLUE Army
SURR

Kills: 8,495
Deaths: 5,287
Assists: 1,024
Matches played: 524
Matches won: 302

Medals (or ribbons now that I think about it):

  • BLUE Service (Joined the BLUE Army).
  • First Tour (2,000 Kills, 250 Assists, 100 Games played).
  • Purple Heart (Die 2,000 times).
  • Second Tour (5,000 Kills, 1,000 Assists, 300 Matches played).
  • Medal of Honor (1,000 savior medals)
  • Selfless service (Capture at least 200 Objectives).
  • Victory ribbon (Win over 300 matches).
  • BLUE VICTORY MEDAL (BLUE won the war).

ETC. And you get paid in credits for every medal or ribbon, and you get paid per game according to your playlist rank.

Now I’m done . . .

These are all great ideas but you also have to think of the other players playing on your team, like lets say you are really good but a team mate of yours is just starting out playing halo and is not as experienced as you and so he gets killed alot and so brings your team mates kd ratio down. So one solution would be that the computer running all of the multiplayer, picks people to be on your team that have the same or around the same kd and experience as you and so have a greater advantage on the odds and that way there can be a team for people starting, not as good players and the most experineced and as you get more experinece you keep leveling up and playing with more experienced players and that can be the ranking for that playlist.
