As we all know, when Halo 4 was developed and released, they made the MP part of the Halo story. But the problem with doing this is since you made it canon, it needs to comply with the rest of everything else as well that is canon or will be canon.
There is no point in making MP canon except to give a couple explanations as to why some things are. These explanations, however interesting they may be, definitely aren’t worth it. Having to make all MP canon puts in a lot of potential for conflicts when the MP gameplay is getting designed.
Bungie separated the two in all of its 5 Halo games for a reason. This was why. And I’m not saying that as a dude with nostalgia glasses on here. Canon interferes with potential gameplay in MP. I cannot think of any way around this so if you would, 343, please remove this almost needless limitation in all future games.
Do you mean the reason why the Reds and the Blues fight?

One of the things that can be said is the lack of Elites is down to Multiplayer supposedly being a “Spartan training Simulation” Cannon in MM creates silly restrictions…

If we can have Flood, we should be able to have Elites too.

Agreed. Perhaps they didn’t include any enemy as a player since Knights are on the scene now too?

This. Flood, from a training point of view makes some sense. Spartans wanting to play as a member of one of their past warring enemies does not.
The ability to be an Elite in a simulator is actually a great benefit as it allows one to truly act and think like the enemy.
We’re not restricted to Spartans only because we’re in a simulation, we’re restricted to Spartans only because that is how the cookie crumbles, get’s tossed back into the blender and then rebaked into the next cookie.
There’s nothing stopping us from having playable Elites in lore for the next game, merely the time to balance the mechanics of such differently proportioned avatars.
well if we can have flood in a canon MP then I don’t see why we can’t have elites. I wouldn’t play as them though as they would be those hideous elites from 4.
I prefer Multiplayer as canon, it makes it seem so much more than just killing people.
The only problem with it being canon is when it interferes with the experience. Like how it did to the Race gametype, or the loss of Elites in matchmaking…
These monstrosities cannot happen in Halo 5, or else all who follow the Covenant will fall…

Except the Flood in the War Games simulation is NOTHING like the actual Flood.
It doesn’t make any sense!
Aside from Spartan Ops, it’s not apparent that the multiplayer in Halo 4 is canon, anyway. If one just picks up the game and starts playing, the pretty graphic on the menu that shows War Games takes place on a section of the Infinity will appear to be, well, just a pretty graphic.
The idea is certainly a fascinating one and it’s great to finally answer the nagging question of why the Reds fight the Blues. However, I feel like executing it, and doing so properly and effectively, seems to be more trouble than what it’s really worth.
War Games is how Spartans train, that is the only bit that should ever be considered canon, everything else isn’t so we don’t need to deal with the stupid restrictions of canon.
I don’t think it really limits the multiplayer in any way. I mean, there is a Flood mode…
I agree. Making multiplayer ‘canon’ only limits the experience.
Making it canon takes away the magic for me.
I went back to Reach and played Elite Slayer, I miss being an Elite
It can still be canonical and include Elites…

Gameplay over Canon

This is a concern that I have if 343 includes an Invasion or Elite gametype. I’d be crushed if we were given the ability to play as an Elite but stuck as a Storm Elite rather than Arby’s loyalists.
And bring back the Plasma Rifle…
Make elites canon. Elites invade Infinity, war games are over, and now it’s just war. Bring back Invasion.
