Multiplayer Playlist Suggestion

I have been thinking about this ever since Halo: Reach came out, and have been waiting to suggest it for the new Halo 4, so here it is.

Ever made a cool new map in forge? or a sweet addicting gametype? …but none of your friends are on to play it with. Well here is my solution. What if? What if 343 added a new playlist called “Custom Match” (or whatever) that allows you to search for a random player’s custom game and join in with them. It would be so helpful in many ways. First off, like i said before, you would always have people to play with when you wanted to try out a new map or game you made. Second, if you just feel like playing some non-ranked games with some layd-back people this would be where you can go.

Details: when your in the custom game lobby [say after you set up the map and gametype you want to play] you select the privacy to “social” instead of closed, open, or invite only. This would lock in the current gametype and map you have selected. Then other people looking for a custom game to join go to matchmaking > custom match > choose the gametype (slayer, ctf, koth, zombies, etc) and will be randomly put into someones game under that category. The point of the “lock in the current gametype and map” is so that if you pick slayer, and others join, you cant choose a different gametype like say zombies.

Please leave comments and tell me what you think. Tell me the flaws you see in this, and other suggestions around this idea.
Thanks Guys n’ Gals

I’ve always wanted this. Not a bad idea because I love custom games!

i wouldnt mind this aslong as there was a way to only have maps that atleast somewhat well made dont want to join a game were its just a hallway or something

ya i was thinking the same, and unfortunately i dont see how this could be prevented, but hopefully people just would do stuff like that, where a bunch of people join and they just annoy you. And anyways, there would be no point to things like spawn straps and stuff because its just a custom game and your stats dont change because of it.

I really like the idea of a custom games playlist but it would have to allow quiting as many matches as you want. It would also work great with the new join-in-progress system 343i is going to use.

Nice Idea but I say it forces game chat. Yes. Hearing people yell in game chat sets the mood for the game on a Friday night when your playing with friends, having everyone in party chat kills the mood

we could have a thumbs up/thumbs down at the end of the game, or when you quit. after like 24 hours, it must have X% of thumbs up to be continue to be available on custom search, and also have an “Unfair/unplayable” review option to flag it for review, or it X% of players chose that option after like 24 hours, it’d be removed, and if X amount of that players maps were removed for that reason, they would be unable to upload to custom search, or their maps must be reviewed by 343/community mods before being join-able.

It should randomly pick someone to choose a custom game they have, that way it’d be more “fair”

I see what your saying, and i like your thinking, but i think you took it a little to far, haha. what i am thinking of for this idea is not really to get maps approved for matchmaking or anything, but more of just a way to play custom games even when you dont have any friends on at the moment. The whole thumbs up/down thing would be great, but you said that after 24 hours… thats where i think you thought too far. I didnt mean this like someone would set up a game and people join it whenever, i meant it as in yourgame is only up when you are in and waiting for people.
like say i set up a custom game with my map/gametlye, then make it social, people can join when they want. But when im done and and the game/close the lobby, everyone else is kicked… or maybe one of them could randomly be selected host… idk.
but i do like the rating idea, thanks for that

It’s an interesting idea, but I’m not sure how well it would work. It sounds a big complicated. One thing you would definitely need is the host has to be able to boot people because some people are just annoying and mess the game up by not doing what they’re meant to do just for fun. That’s the one thing that really ruins Customs.

343 would never do this, it would kill the other playlists. But I do think there should be a clan type system that kind of works like the groups on Bnet. You could join a clan, but you wouldn’t be aware of it’s other members(so it’s not like the second friends list clan system of Halo 2). The only thing you’d be able to do is invite all, so if you created a custom games clan that gained a lot of members, you could invite them all to get people to play with.

No offense to you or anyone else, but i just dont think u guys are getting what i originally meant by this idea. It would literally be JUST like a custom game that you would play with your friends, but instead with randoms that join thru matchmaking. So yes, you would be able to kick people.

–and the only thing different about this and a normal custom game is that, like i said, once you select your gametype and open the lobby to “social” it locks the game in so that u cant change it to a different gametype.

i like this idea too, but if they incorporated something to do with clans, i would much rather go back to halo 2 type clans with clan battles in matchmaking.
and about the “it would kill the other playlists”, i strongly disagree with that. this would be just like custom games, so it wont effect your stats, u cant get challenges (if they even have them in halo 4) u cant rank up… nothing like that. So really, anyone you was wanting to rank up or play competitively would still use the normal matchmaking playlists, which is most people.
