Multiplayer Outlines Fix

I posted this as a reply but here’s a thread.

I dont understand why they don’t implement one simple fix that I think satisfies everyone.

Allow a toggle to remove outline for ENEMY TEAM your team having outlines is fine I think, they aren’t too bright and you can see your friends armor easily. If you want to you can even stand next to your buddy and get a good look cuz they ain’t killing you.
ENEMY however, some players like the advantage of seeing people easily. While some people want the outlines gone and just want to shoot at raw Spartans.

So. Removing the enemy outline but team outline stay so you never shoot team mates and you’ll see anyone without an outline as an enemy and someone who isn’t “uplinked” to your teams hud system, if we need some lore reason.

They can add another toggle in the future too, similar to halo MCCs “Legacy” toggle that removes all new game content (ie: Viking helms in halo 3, new reach armors, halo ce visors) but instead, they can add a RvB toggle that just makes Eagle and Cobra team their original R and B colors. This toggle also STACKS with the enemy outline toggle idea stated earlier.

Boom, everyone is happy. You wanna see cool colors while also cross maping/ez visibility and such, great go ahead, leave it default. Wanna see unique custom colors MORE closely, and maybe, wanna do a lil role playing in BtB and make things more realistic looking, great remove outline. Wanna play classic halo team theme, great turn on RvB

I think that making your for team outlines however, if outlines are still a serious annoyance, they can add a Dot or Arrow that’s colored your team, and fireteam colors above their head. Some way of STILL being able to see your team from across the map and some way of recognizing fireteam. Especially in ranked. Having your teammates easily visible at a glance is important.

Og halos I think had emblems and service tags above your teams head when they were on screen. Seeing a player outline thru a wall like L4D might be helpful but now I’m rambling.

Everyone wins
FIX FIRETEAM SYSTEM TOO PLS but that’s less important compared to everything else in da game.
Thanks for reading

Problem with a toggle for outlines is you wouldnt turn them off as you would have the advantage. Friendly outlines I’m ok with, not a huge fan of, but I’ll live. Enemy outlines just need to go period. They have ruined SWAT alone.

If you want to have modes with them on and off, fine, keep them on for unranked playlists, remove them from ranked. Then SWAT needs to be ranked only.

i prefer the option in overwatch where things only get outlines when they are on the other side of a wall. still get the free stupid wallhack but without the dumb clutter when everything is within combat view.

We shouldn’t know if an enemy is on the other side of the wall.

i mostly just want classic red vs blue back like og halo and quake.

I would prefer to go red v blue, but I can see their not making money on cosmetics in a F2P game (which was dumb to begin with), but we don’t need enemy outlines.

We have two options:

  1. Keep friendly outlines, get rid of enemy outlines. This way people can still look like they want without doing FFA.

-Or-

  1. Move multiplayer to only those who bought the game and go back to red v blue.

I have posted before about this. Enemy outlines have to go. Snipers and other weapons now have glare, I think this resolves the camping with power weapons less of an issue. Enemy outlines are just dumb, they are available in an infinite range yet we have a useless 18 meter radar. what a joke.

I think we need to get rid of glare for non-snipers, if not completely. A BR should not have a glare.

You can make your own red vs blue if you want. Even switch it up for yourself if you like and play one game as red and the other as blue.

I personally love being on the same team every single time (blue) and fighting against the same team every single time (yellow).

In previous Halo games, there were maps where blue was poorly visible and maps where red was poorly visible.

If enemy outlines was always turned off, people would only wear armor coatings that would make them blend in with the surroundings. No more bright yellow, red or green coatings. Only dull brownish, grayish dirt colors. That will make things very boring very fast.

A toggle function would be okay. If YOU want it turned off, you can do so. I just know I will keep pineapple color for the enemy team on.

Toggle won’t work, it would put people at a disadvantage. I have been playing first person shooters long enough to know that people will pick whatever color they want and it will not impact the gameplay. You can try to blend in, but it really doesn’t work. Plus, you can’t pick a color to blend in in halo, each map has a very different color scheme, sol you might blend in some maps, and other maps you’ll stand out like a sore thumb.

You want to know what’s boring? Being able to see enemies a mile away for no reason. You can barely see a vehicle and know if it’s occupied. You can see a head barely popping up and get a kill. All because of outlines. The games were fun ling before outlines were a thing, and they need to go back to no enemy outlines.

You cannot possibly think that somebody wearing gray in a cement building pops out just the same as somebody wearing the granular coating?

I have been playing first person shooters long enough to know that people will pick whatever color they want and it will not impact the gameplay.’

Alright, CoD begs to differ. But great for you for not having a problem with that. Then people can pick the outline whatever color they want. You can see people whatever color they have. So good for you.

With the outline system, people with colorblindness or people who aren’t as experienced as you with FPS games (or both) can also play the game. You can see them as good with and without outline. That’s good for you. Problem solved, everybody happy. Ask for a toggle if you want to see the colors people picked themselves. Don’t try to take something away from people that actually like a feature in the game (outlines). I don’t know if you were trying that, but if you were: eww.

Just go for your own personal red vs. blue. Keep the original settings (friendly = blue, enemy = red). Or the other way around if you prefer to be on the red team.

Wear grey and you’ll blend in some maps, but not others. Wear black, green, red, blue, you’ll blend in some maps not others. Wear pink, you’ll stand out regardless. There us no way to guess what map you’ll be on to pick the right colors before hand. You’re K/D won’t change no matter what color you pick. CoD doesn’t beg to differ, the color you wear doesn’t increase or decrease your K/D, only thing that does that is your skill. People have had personal colors in Halo for a while when it came to FFA and blending in was not an issue.

Want a game with outlines? Go play one with outlines. Halo is not, never was, and never should be that., it ruins the game. It ruins stealth play, it ruins sniping (you can see outlines from a mile away), it ruins peeking, it ruins vehicle/turret ambush, it promotes camping, and it ruined SWAT.

When you can sit somewhere and wait for a hint of player outline that you shouldn’t be able to see that’s not right, when you can clearly see people peeking in doorways that is dark, that ruins it, and in game modes like SWAT where a head shot is death, being able to barely see a head creep over stairs because out player outlines and get kills, that ruins SWAT. When you can barely see a vehicle and know it’s occupied because of outlines, that ruins the game. When you can easily snipe players through trees because the outlines make it so easy to do, that ruins the game.

A toggle is a terrible idea, no one would turn it off and give them a disadvantage.

Want outlines? Play a different game. Players don’t like outlines, that’s the point, plenty of people hate them, it’s not Halo. SWAT is a shell of it’s former self because of them. They turned a highly competitive high speed mode into a camp and shoot player outlines. (They also need to remove glare from BR’s)

Keep friendly outlines, I don’t care, enemy outlines need to go. If you need enemy outlines in Halo, then they should ONLY exist in unranked. No ranked mode should have enemy outlines. But ideally enemy outlines should go.

You want to argue for color blindness? Then you can have other team colors instead of Red v Blue, add a setting that allows people to change the team colors on their client side so they can pick what colors allies and enemies are. All this can be done without outlines. Outlines actually make it harder to see shield status compared to the old system, now the shield and outlines are the same color, before hand we had no outlines, teams were red and blue and shield color was gold.

There are three options:

  1. Keep the game free to play and keep friendly outlines on and turn off enemy outlines.
  2. Charge for the multiplayer game as part of the campaign, turn off ALL player outlines, and go back to Red v Blue (or whatever colors you want to help color blindness).
  3. Turn off enemy outlines in ranked and either a) keep friendly outlines on to support player customizations, or b) ranked goes Red v Blue (or whatever colors you want to help color blindness) and removes all player outlines.

I could also see a system where color outlines are only permitted to players who are in bronze or something. Another thing I thought of would be remove enemy outlines. Keep team outlines, and you can choose the shield color of each team to differentiat in battle easier.

Or if they force full RvB colors, you can pick the primary color of the spartan teams entirety. I assume this was mentioned above

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you only see enemy outlines on the other side of the wall if someone’s marked them, right? I don’t see why that’s much different than someone telling you ‘hey there are enemies on the other side of the wall/inside the building’. The mark system is a pretty good way of communicating stuff like that without having to use voice chat.

That’s not really what we are talking about. The issue is seeing enemy outlines from across the map with no effort in looking for the enemies. But if you hit enemies it tends to tag enemies through walls too. But marking enemies sounds allow to to see them through walls, you should know where they were, but not where they are going.

Oh okay, so the idea is that we shouldn’t be seeing outlines unless they’re much closer, or?

I don’t think I’ve been seeing hit enemies through walls unless someone’s specifically marked them but I’ll keep an eye out for it.

If enemy outlines were to continue living on infinite, they should only be marked when a threat sensor detects them, or if in radar range, not the infinite range it has right now.

ENEMY OUTLINES HAVE TO GOOOOO SO FARRR AWAY from halo

You shouldn’t see outlines at all for enemies. Halo has never had outlines. If you can EASILY see, barely a head come over stairs, even if you aren’t specifically looking right at the stairs, because of the outlines, that’s an issue. If I can EASILY see someone across the map because they are bright yellow, that is an issue. If you can barely see the front end of a vehicle around a corner, you should not know if it is occupied by outlines. Outlines belong in cartoony shooters, not Halo.

Threat sensor is fine. Radar range, no.

there should be an option to remove it, imagine in custom matches, or infection
