If you look only at the gameplay mechanics they nailed it in the fluidity of it all.

H4’s movement felt off to me and the players interactions with the environment also felt wrong, almost like crouch jumping onto things would feel like they repulsed you. There’s a good reason why H4’s population went from 411,000 to 6,000 in 6 months while Reach had a population of 100,000 still after 3 years.

H5 was just a bad Halo game in general, sprint and thrusters just mucked map design up and once again 343 was leaning to heavy into competitive which is why it likely felt I was overwhelmed dealing with the thruster combination against enemies in pvp. I would have someone dead to rights and they would thrust away and I would have to reacquire the target and I’d die in the process.

Yeah, that can be appreciated, but it still doesn’t justify turning this game into one big cash grab that players will have to wait for over a year just to at least feel they got a complete game. But let forget about all that right, because it’s not important at all…

That’s not relevant. An incomplete game can still be over 100GB in file size, and a complete game can be half that easily. I used the word optimization but really I meant file compression. Now I have no doubt in my mind that the game will eventually be like Halo 5 with over 100GB, but right now its wonderful that you can download the game and not have to worry about whether or not you have the harddrive space.

Hog Wash, because it is literally dictating the direction of the game, and having players spend $60 for a hard copy for what, 14Gigs? is this a joke, becase that isn’t funny at all?

Optimizing the game is one thing, but that isn’t the major amount of issues in this game now is it?

It only goes to show how lost this generation is today.

343 had all the resources they needed at their disposal, and they even outsourced their work which means things should have been done a lot faster and more efficiently. Yet, small companies like DE that works on Warframe that don’t have the resources as 343 does have has done better work when it comes to customization and producing content.

343 has been at this since Halo 4, and I’m tired of seeing all the BS excuses for 343’s deliberate poor actions. The reality here is, poor leadership leads to poor development and that is what has actually taken place.

Jumping is out dated? Compared to other shooters jumping was barely a viable option compared to Halo. Hell, the jumping has taken a hit because of clambering being added.

I wish clamber was toggleable. Like hold ‘X’ button to clamber as opposed to automatic.

See, for the people saying Halo 5 was best, you’re not an uncommon feature when a new Halo comes out. People were saying Halo 2 sucked when it came out after CE, then 3 after it came out after 2.

The difference here is, there was a natural progression. I liked reach for what it was, but Bungie clearly went full experimental (you can see heavy Destiny correlation in their design choices) with its sandbox.

The thing is, while reach was fun, it wasn’t Halo in the core sense. Giving everyone the ability to start with random abilities changed the foundation of what Halo is.

So 4 comes out, 343 is in charge. They say “oh, everyone used sprint, let’s just make it a base ability. All current shooters have sprint, and it will make it easier to pick up for new players”

This completely ignored why sprint was popular, and also the fact that on the whole, a large part of the Halo community hated Armor Abilities. 343 wanting to push for that CoD modern shooter crowd, doubled down, and also changed things they didn’t need to be changed. (Getting rid of de-scope, in favor of flinch)

The population died, because of these and other terrible decisions.

H5 comes out, “ok, people don’t like uneven starts, so we will give everyone the ability to do crazy things all the time”

This decision fundamentally changed what Halo was. I will say this:

  • Halo 5’s multiplayer was fun. It was good.

But it wasn’t a Halo game.

Not in the core sense. It felt like an off brand game trying to make a new game entirely heavily borrowing from Halo. It’s a good game, but not a good halo game, in terms of multiplayer.

Halo had an identity. A “way it played”. Making everyone sonic the hedgehog completely demolished what made Halo unique. Some people didn’t/don’t mind that, but for people that loved the way the original trilogy played, it was just another game taking another step further away from the classic gameplay.

You could try to argue that Halo 5 was the best Halo we’d had in years, but I felt, as did many others I’m sure, that it just wasn’t what they wanted.

I think, personally, that Halo Infinite is 343 finally trying to make a Halo game that those fans want, and have been asking for since Halo Reach launched with all of its formulaic changes. Halo Infinite feels like it’s trying hard to be that game.

I listened to a YouTuber named Favyn. He said that if Infinite had been started a mere year later, sprint and slide and clamber would most likely not be there.

I have to say I agree. Halo. In its original formula, was unique and incredibly successful. Those that say it was dated, I personally think don’t understand fundamentally what made Halo special. That’s why you saw people outraged by things many considered worthless like split screen multiplayer, etc. These things were integral to what Halo is, and what it was.

Halo Infinite needs a lot of work, and it does a lot of things I don’t like, but it’s easily the best foundation I’ve seen or felt in a Halo game in over a Decade. I just hope they do what it needs going forward.

It is. It just you have to press it as you’re at the ledge as opposed to holding it down.

They need that as well.

Wait there are options for clamber?

I don’t remember seeing them in the settings but I haven’t gone through with a fine tooth comb.

You probably only read part of the convo.

Yes, ONLY having jumping as your main combat movement mechanic is dated. I’m not saying jumping in general is dated.

Is jumping as a combat movement mechanic in games dated? No.

Is having jumping as the only viable combat movement mechanic in games dated? Emphatically yes.
