Multiplayer Idea: Teams Earn Spartans

I’m sure someone has come up with this idea already, but I think Spartans should be a premium in Halo multiplayer rather than the standard unit everyone plays with.

How cool would it be if your team built up “Spartan points” by doing various things in a match and when they reach a certain threshold the next player respawned would be a Spartan dropped from the sky?

In this scenario, everyone would deployed as marines or the Covenant equivalent (Jackals?).

Thoughts?

If the idea has already been posted and the thread has died, I personally think it should be left within the depths of the forums; or at least post in the original thread than make a copy.

OT: I’m going to say no, simply because it screams unbalanced.

No.

That seems like a Bioshock rip off. And we all know how quickly that lasted…

Sooo a Titanfall rip off. We all know what happen to the last halo that tried to rip off other game mechanics.

Announcer ORDINANCE READY!

Play ops to play as a Spartan-IV… player now dominates the rest of the match… making game uneven, non-competitive and loosing its fun.

OP your idea is ripping off many games, Lord of the Rings: Conquest… Hero System, Bioshock, Titanfall… Titans. Please no more reskinned mechanics… perhaps using existing mechanics as inspiration which create very, very, very sutle tweaks to existing Halo gameplay… but no major changes! Go play the other game that the base mechanic is famous for… if all games are the same, none are unique.

WOOOOO! TITANFALL WOOOOO!!!

But in all seriousness as cool as titanfall is going to be…this would be uneven, unfair and un-fun in the halo games.

So, we play as an underpowered Marine, who can’t take damage as well as a Spartan, until we become a Spartan, who will more than likely need a lot more firepower to kill the Spartan due to it being overall better.

Or he could be not special at all and just looks cooler.

Either scenario doesn’t help the game or add anything to the game as a gametype. It’s just sounds either very weak or frustrating.

Halo fans need to stop looking at other games and think “ME TOO!”. Not everything works in different games, and not everything should be copied. No we don’t need Titans or Spartans because you thought it was cool in Titanfall. No we don’t need 64 player battles because you played one game of BF4 and thought it was fun. No we don’t need perks/loadouts because of Call of Duty.

Not everything can transition between games. Players need to really REALLY stop and think that if something is fun, does it also work with the gameplay?

Thanks for the input guys. The more I think about it, you’re right that this idea probably spawned from reading about Titanfall or various other multiplayer experiences.

I’m in the midst of reading all of the Halo novels and they got me thinking about how unique/rare/powerful Spartans are in the war against the Covenant. I just think it would be cool to incorporate this same theme in the multiplayer experience somehow.

I can see how game balance would be an issue in my original scenario, but maybe there’s a way to make it work.

What if one side was the Covenant, Elites and all, while the other was marines and 1 deployable Spartan?

Other ideas?
