1. Controller Aiming.
I know there’s a lot of feedback on this one. I was trying the entire flight to figure out how to get my aim to feel the same way it does in MCC and I just couldn’t. I couldn’t put my finger on what was wrong but I saw someone on twitter describe it as “Icy” and that is the perfect analogy in my opinion. It felt exactly like my crosshair was slipping on a patch of black ice every time I tried to track my opponent in a gun fight. It made every encounter unenjoyable and exhausting. Maybe its just the lack of aim assist I’m not used to? I don’t know but it doesn’t feel good.
2. Bloom.
I don’t think anyone likes bloom. Let’s just get it aht a here. It’s there to create an illusion that your weapon is getting more difficult use but the TTK is like 1 second on every weapon right now so who cares. It really isn’t doing anything other than being a visual nuisance to the players.
3. Server Selection.
We need to have the ability to turn off servers like in MCC. Especially our friends over seas that probably had it 10x worse than I did playing on high ping. A random roll of the dice on which server you’re going to get is the determining factor in whether or not you’re going to win or lose and it’s the most frustrating experience anyone can have playing these games and its the reason I quit playing Halo 5.
4. Weapon Range and Weapon Velocity.
I think the velocity and range on all of the weapons in the game is set way too high. The damage on most weapons feels great, I have no issues there, but every weapon is a laser beam and that’s where things went wrong for me. There’s no reason for every weapon in the sandbox to essentially be a precision weapon. AR starts have always revolved around teams competing for more valuable/powerful weapons on the map. It’s the entire point of the sandbox. But I saw people every single match that would completely ignore the BR or the Commando in favor of just sticking with the Sidekick and the AR. And many people are praising how OP these weapons are right now because they didn’t have to swap to something else like a BR to compete. This is just bad for a Halo game. In the standard slayer mode your starting weapons shouldn’t be so viable that players don’t even try to pick up other weapons on the map. Again I’m 90% sure its the velocity and range on the weapons so maybe try reducing those quite a bit and then see how the weapons feel? I know 343i starting with H4 really pumped those numbers up compared to the original trilogy. There just needs to be more of a difference between weapons, and the precision weapons are supposed to outshine the other weapons that’s the entire point; you should want to upgrade your loadout in modes with AR starts.
5. Grenades.
It feels like the grenades are all made out of flubber and you are launching them out of a T-shirt cannon. There’s a ton of velocity on each throw and they bounce a lot. Every time I think I’ve landed a perfect nade it will bounce another 10 feet behind the person I tossed it at. This one’s more of a nitpick because I’m sure I’ll get used to it eventually but still, maybe there’s a little too much sauce on them right now.
6. Battle Pass/ Progression.
I don’t like the battle pass at all. And because I don’t care for the battle pass I haven’t been focused at trying to progress it; but I can say despite playing in both flights so far I’m only at level 11 because almost everything I do I’m not rewarded for. It’s just a bad system for Halo imo. I will have the competitive ranks to look forward to for some kind of progression, but not having the EXP progression was a huge step back for Halo. There’s no reason you couldn’t have EXP and a battle pass. Maybe it’ll be different when the game launches, maybe the S1 battle pass is absolutely amazing and I’ll actually want to unlock things. But if its anything like the one in the flights or like the ones they added to the MCC player retention will be bad I can guarantee it. It just feels like everything that has been done regarding the monetization of the game has a been a spit in the face to the players.
Aside from the few bits of feedback here I want to say I absolutely love everything else about this game and I can’t wait for it to come out. It feels like Halo again for me and I haven’t been this excited for a game since 2007. I could rattle off a whole list but essentially if I didn’t list it here it means its probably something I’m thoroughly impressed/happy with. But especially the MP maps. They’re the most beautiful maps I’ve played on since H3 and it feels like 343i finally figured out where you play is just as important as how you play.
