Multiplayer Fairness

Is it just me, (and I know it very well could be), or is it just a common occurrence in multiplayer (I usually just play ranked Slayer) to have some matches where it seems like your movements are slower compared to others, like they’re shooting you faster, or that your shots don’t seem to register? I’ll have some matches where I get 20+ kills and single digit deaths and then another match where I barely get any kills and just get crushed. I’ve had situations where I was running in a direction then just started getting shot from nowhere and then 2 enemies literally just appear right in front of me as if they were shooting me before they were rendered on my screen. Numerous times I’ve had full shield, shot someone several times, meleed them, and then they melee me once with me facing them and I die. When I get shot, a lot of times I can’t sprint. Some matches I’ll get in several shots on someone, with no return fire, and they just speed away. And some players seem to have unbelievably fast side-to-side movement when facing off 1 on 1. What’s up with that? I have great internet speed, so I don’t think that’s the issue. I’m just throwing out a bunch of stuff here that I’ve noticed, but really my question boils down to general fairness. Is there just a certain amount of “unfair” game play (or maybe just glitches) that results from it all happening on computers over the internet? And sometimes you benefit while other times you don’t?? Just curious if anyone else notices similar stuff…

I’ve seen it before, without outright calling it cheating because of the unknown I always just assume that it’s lag. maybe somebody else has a better answer.

I’ve had those matches before. It’s definitely not due to someone hacking or cheating. I think it’s just some kind of lag.

Sounds like lag or a packet loss issue. It doesn’t always have to be on your end though since it could be the other person who’s lagging.

I had so much lag one night I literally had time to run up to the corner store to pick up a pack of smokes…

Funny you said that…I had the hardwire to my system until I went to work one day only to find my oldest decided to reroute the att so he had the hard wire and installed the wireless to me…he said something about how I sucked at halo anyway and the wireless would just help me die quicker.

To quote the wise words of Rodney Dangerfeild. “Even in hell I get no respect”

Ha that sounds brutal.

A friend of mine lived with some very uninclined tech person in a shared apartment. When this person was eating up all the bandwidth (happened mostly on weekend evenings), my friend would unplug the router and tell them that the internet went out. He then would plug the router back in and could game without bad ping. This worked for the better half of a year.

It could probably be server lag on 343’s side or the other person. I’ve had people just lag behind me when I’m shooting them. Just blame it on lag and move on. Or throw your controller at the wall…

God bless the ignorant…

I know exactly what you mean. I get shot around the corner with a scatter shot and stuff like that. Some things are really ridiculous. Also, as someone else wrote already, it really has to do with other people having bad connections. Many times, I will get shot and thing “Come on … that was never five shots from a magnum just now…!” … and it probably wasn’t because somehow the information didn’t get through entirely. Most frustrating thing ever when you get killed like that and cannot even react. Makes the game somewhat unplayable.
