Multiplayer Environment is Poison

As an older adult that has played too much Halo over the years I must say the best way to explain the current multiplayer environment is poisonous.
Let me preface this with the fact that I suck at this game. I have played so much over the past year to get on a playing field that puts me somewhere in the intermediate zone (maybe). Even though I am not very good I used to have fun playing warzone and ranked arena.
Ranked arena used to be a place that I could play against people around my level, and every couple of games play against people that clearly destroyed us, in which moved us down and we had fun at the lower level. I would range from platinum 1 to 5 and all was well.
Over the past few days and weeks the amount of teams completely obliterating us is making this game suck. Most of them contain players who are level 1-30 accounts which clearly are longtime players that created a new account and they like humiliating the lesser player.
If you are an individual that plays a second account to destroy lesser ranked people you are poison. The rank is there so I don’t have to face Onyx or Champion people. You rolling another character to destroy lesser teams is cheating the system, and just makes you an -Yoink-. Your casual “whatever” play, may be our best effort.
“Get good…” How about we are trying…, and you are poisoning that environment by rolling smurfs to destroy any effort of that.
It’s too bad a few great players can destroy the experience for such a large number of lesser players by being -Yoink- bags. If you are one of the said -Yoink- bags, it is too bad your mother didn’t beat some sense into you. Then again, most of you young -Yoink- bags have probably never had a good beating before. A sign of the PC and hippie times we live in…

Smurfing, I believe, is the term for a low-level account created by a veteran player.
For most competitive games, it’s a problem. Definitely quite annoying.
Unfortunately, I don’t see what 343 could do about it.

That’s called smurfing. Alternate accounts and I don’t think I have ran into one yet.

They are EVERYWHERE. Next time somebody goes 25 and 4 in slayer and is allegedly a SR13 chances are you are facing a smurf.

There is zero legitimate reason to smurf. Guys will say that they want a break from playing at their best…which is ridiculous. Just play on your normal account. What is the issue? Your worth as a person is not tied to your K/D or win percentage and as OP said smurfs poison the system.

Role in a party i guess. To avoid being dominated. Well there are either smurfs or boosters nowadays in Arena. Safest ranked playlist to avoid all this is FFA.

Or they have under 50 gamer score.

Team Arena Platinum 5

Better than me, at least.

Lol I check everybody’s account no matter what they say (kind of a bad habit)

We can’t really stop it. The only way to have some sort of fix is to have a higher population so that the smurf accounts fall into the crowd.

Yikes. Smurf accounts are the equivalent of taking Barry Bonds and putting him in a little league game. OF COURSE his team will win, but is it really winning if there was never a chance you’d lose? People that do this are just obsessed with being superior.

I think back in the old days we used to call it Seal Clubbing… because Seals are relatively defenseless. People use to just lose constantly so they’d be de-ranked and then they could play against people they could utterly destroy (this is back in Halo 2 days). People have always done this because they want to fight real people, but want to do it on easy mode and take a break from the challenge that is their level.

The best way to fix this, would be to add an IP scanner to the Matchmaking. If a person has a matching IP and their first few games come out to be something like 25-2 or something like that, then they immediately start getting matched against people of their level on their main account. It’s not hard to circumvent their system, you just have to think logically and actually care about the community.

Bungie used to police these people on a regular basis. 343 apparently doesn’t care to by the sound of it.

You likely have ran into hundreds of them but haven’t checked.

It’s bad, I run into accounts with 1 - 2 hours played nearly every time I play.

I’ve avoided PvP gametypes for this very reason. I almost always get dominated in just about every game I play, and that is a lot less fun in places outside… Intimate encounters :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Smurfing is extremely unsporting, and it’s honestly kind of sad. That being said in my entire playtime with Halo 5 I believe I’ve only run into a genuine smurf maybe 4 or 5 times. Doesn’t seem to be a very common occurrence for myself or any of my friends that play regularly (of course that is an admittedly small piece of the population).

It’s called smurfing, even though I am of high onyx level play, I heavily despise it because I am aware of the bad times it brings other players. Although I have an idea on why people of my similar skill might do it.

People do it most likely because when you get to a point in the higher ranks, things become a little… sweaty. Let me explain. What I mean by that is once you get yourself to this point, playing “casually” is no longer a viable option. at these ranks, if you don’t try your absolute hardest, you will most likely lose by a landslide. Even if you slack a little bit, you’ll get stomped by everyone else. That’s why people crate these smurf accounts because they want to play slayer casually again. It’s the reason why whenever I have my friend Jose over (who is an average gold and platinum player) I always ask if I can play on his profile for a bit. It’s because me and other high ranking players smurf, we don’t want to be stuck in the 24/7 sweat fest that is Halo 5’s ranking system.

Or at least that’s the way I see it.

I am not trying to be mean but Onyx 1600 is low onyx not high onyx. But it does get super sweaty in Onyx and Champ. I personally don’t smurf but I can understand why people do it. Smurfing will not disappear until they bring back social playlists and get rid of hidden ranks (I still match against great players in Super Fiesta and BTB is just running into teams).

I know 1600 isn’t high, I just mean that it isn’t an odd sight to see me playing against a champion level player or an onyx 2000 and still come out above them. I’m just not as high as them because I only play 10 games and then I finish. I bet if you look at my older games in FFA you’ll seem me beat a few high onyx and champion players.

Ok…I wasn’t saying you were a bad player. I was just saying that Onyx 1600 is not high so it would be possible to see smurfs there. Vetoed has a smurf that is around that level despite him only playing around 20 games on that account.

Whoa chill out there buddy. I don’t think any parents are saying “Normally I would beat my child, but that would be politically incorrect”.

lol these forums are poison
