First off, this is a great game and is fun as is. As someone who has played hundreds of thousands of multiplayer Halo games (from H1 on) I don’t have huge complaints, but suggestions on things that might bring back that old Halo feel.
I’ve been trying to pinpoint what it is about the multiplayer that seems a bit off.
The first thing I’ve come up with is the fact that ordinances exist in the state they do and that there are very few weapons on the map (those that are there seem to appear at random). I think they should change ordinances to only drop upgrades (overshield, speed boost, etc) instead of dropping power weapons, and in turn put the power weapons back on the map. There is nothing wrong with loadouts in their current state, but with ordinances as the most consistent way to get power weapons it just feels like there is no reason to move around on the map in a slayer game.
It also seems like with the speed in which the DMR/BR/AR takes you down, there isn’t much of an advantage to power weapons. I often find myself not caring that I got an ordinance because the starting weapons are so much better in nearly all scenarios. I like that the game is faster than it has been in the past, but even with the God pistol in H1, there was a distinct feeling that the sniper rifle and rocket launcher were power weapons.
