Multiplayer Beta – Official Bug Report Thread

So in a very intense game at about the 70 min mark and the game told me the game was over and I was defeated. My partner still playing and all my bases intact…very agervating

Cutter bugs:
Vehicle and air firing animations often don’t initiate, or end up firing away from the target.

On occasion the MAC blast doesnt make any sound.

On the radial wheel, regardless of the menu or complex selected, when an item is unavailable often it will show the wrong icon. (I,e not enough resources to make a hornet, so the icon changes to a scorpion. )

When recycling a building most of the time the “enemy has destroyed one of our buildings” sound bite will play.

"Commander power ready " soundbite plays constantly at random intervals, regardless of availability of powers or points.

When managing the Vulcan on occasion pheonix missiles don’t fire, even after the ~30 second wait.

The active ability button (Y) (e,g. Phoenix missiles, ground pound, etc) often does not function at all.

Unit targeting is dodgy at best, as when selecting all units to fire upon a single target they don’t often all switch, and the time it takes units to switch targets and begin firing animations seems too long, making the units feel unresponsive.

Might just be me, might have been a function designed in but I never found out how to increase the population limit past 80.

Loading times are kind of excessive but I assume this is because of low server priority, and high server traffic.

When an ally gives you resources the qualifier to dictate gamertag is a missing string, and displays as “%1 has given you resources.”

Crashes. Often.

Not a bug but some sort of quick chat option to correspond with allys need to be in place though I imagine they will be come launch.

Also, when firing on an Atriox base with shield generators there’s nothing to dictate shield capacity, or If your doing damage to it at all.

Lastly when your ally quits the game their bases are destroyed immediately, putting the remaining ally at a serious disadvantage, especially when they were previously corresponding. For example if my Ally is to the east of me, the odds are pretty good that I won’t have any defenses to the east, so if they decide to quit or crash, instead of transferring control of his resources bases to the remaining ally, they simply cease to exist and you get rolled. This happened to me on several occasions, most often in matches over an hour long, and is extremely disappointing when you spend all that time just to lose because your ally needed a bio break.

Other than all of that, I thoroughly enjoyed this beta. I’m extremely surprised by the stability of the servers in game. There is very little lag, or sync periods, and I’ve yet to be disconnected, or desynced mid match.

Doing really well 343. Please give us a multiplayer demo In between now and Feb. I don’t want to wait 7 months to play again.

Bug to report, when starting a match sometimes I’m left at “Connecting to players” and cannot move or build structures. I had a teammate that was doing so, moving units, capturing bases, but I couldn’t.

I am an avid Halo Wars 1 player, and I’ve put about 26 hours into the Halo Wars 2 Beta this past week, and I documented every bug I found. Keep in mind that I played the majority of the time with Cutter, so some of these may not carry over to Atriox players. All bugs are apparent in both gamemodes and before and after the update. I am aware that this is a beta and most lag-related bugs will (hopefully) be fixed, but it’s still good to document. I haven’t seen any other bug lists yet, so I apologize if some of these have already been pointed out.
These bugs are no big deal and I more or less don’t care if they make it into the final game:

  • Cursor sometimes disappears for about a minute. Happened a few times. - Projectile particle effects often don’t appear, but still do damage. Happens most of the time in large-scale conflicts. Sometimes particles appear, but their angles are wildly offset. - “You/enemy captured domination point X” dialogue often addresses the wrong domination point. - Delay between input and register on the radial menu. Most consistent and severe at the beginning of the match. - When my ally or I destroy one of our buildings, it triggers the “the enemy has destroyed one of our buildings” dialogue, even though the enemies haven’t touched us. - Black screen on startup while music is still playing. Loads after a few minutes. Most severe before the update. - Health bars in general sometimes don’t show up. - Transparent red box always present in the tech level in the center of the radial menu. - Rather large delay between viewing a notification and cancelling it during a match. - Waiting for players notification takes anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes. - Very occasional rendering issues with fast camera movement/D-pad switching. - Domination point icons on the HUD often flash a color when it’s already been captured. - The pathfinding AI for my units is very inconsistent, i.e. they have a lot of trouble getting stuck in between units. - Some options sometimes are always lit up on the radial menu even when they’re not selected. - Enemy units are sometimes briefly visible in the Fog of War. - Enemy units often don’t appear even when they should be in visual range. - Commander power icons on the radial menu are sometimes replaced with random unit/building icons. - Playlist ranking sometimes doesn’t show up in the main menu. - Supply point particle effect goes through menus and commander power screen. - Sometimes units need extra inputs to execute actions.These bugs are major game-breaking glitches. If any make it into the game, I will not buy it:

  • Freezes on intro video after start button is pressed. Only avoidable if I wait on the intro screen for a minute then go. - Building health bars often say they’re empty regardless of actual health. - Commander Powers sometimes don’t activate but still have to recharge. - Ends the game with either victory or defeat randomly when both teams in the game and each team’s counter above 0. Effects the ranking, too. Happens quite often. - Sometimes my teammate gets disconnected. I don’t know if they quit, but it happens almost half the time. - The controller suddenly couldn’t input anything in the game and the screen freezes. The only button that worked was home. Sound and music still pays. Happened 2 times. Game doesn’t end. Only way to exit is to reset the console. - “Connection to online servers has been lost” notification always shows up after restarting the Xbox. Only way to get back online is to unplug the system. - During the 10 placement matches on domination, at least one person was not moving. I don’t know if it was them being AFK, but it happened in more than 75% of matches. - One time I got stuck at the loading screen for >20 mins. I checked that my screen didn’t freeze but the music had stopped playing. - Waiting for players notification stays up while the timer counts. Ally can’t move also. Game is not frozen.Overall, I am very impressed with this beta. It is a beautiful game with a lot of gameplay depth. I plan on purchasing the full game on release date, but I won’t preorder. Judging by how 343 handled the Master Chief Collection’s launch, I don’t recommend preordering a Microsoft game ever again. Let’s hope that the developers will address most (if not all) of these bugs when the game launches.

There is a bug with the view screen that throws the screen in a upper right direction for some unknown reason at random throughout the game.

finally got halo wars 2 to work i forgot i left the guitar hero live dongle in the back silly me he he he

It’s a bug forum and everyone’s asking where the beta is…
Few bugs are that when you select all units and choose a specific type, like scorpions, you don’t have the choice to use the ‘Y’ button. Also, when selected individually they don’t seem to do anything anyway. This goes for the marines and rocket launchers and grenades. The ‘Y’ option use to be a big part in battles.
The Mac blast doesn’t always work, and when it does it’s way underpowered, unlike the opposite one which is way overpowered and takes out everything too easily.
I don’t have the start up crash bug that people are talking about, is that just happening on PC?

I play the beta and It was beautiful, some bugs and large time to generete the world, and in the menu, some time i couldn’t join to a match for a long time and I don’t leave the matchs, I just play 8 than 10 and I won 2 from 8, this game have to much future and I like it to much :smiley::smiley::smiley::+1::+1:

Had a game breaking bug myself, Got into game and it was waiting for players. yet the game had started, my friend was making units taking points and he did not have the “waiting for players” screen up. I was stuck with it unable to pause, or find a way to get around the issue.
I recorded the issue with my xbox and can be looked at by looking up my gamertag: aaromond.

  • the base health bar doesnt show its descending for the team thats attacking it
  • sometimes one player cant play while the other ones can, it just says “waiting for players” even if there is no one to be waiting for
  • some animations arent showing, like some units muzzleflash or certain explosions
  • units can stand/fly in each other, that might be on purpose but I think it shoudnt be possible

Started a match, but “waiting for players” popped up on my screen and i couldn’t do anything. My ally went and played. I sat there for almost two minutes. I had to go to the xbox home and close the game to get out of the match.

I was 20 minutes into a game. Im sitting next to my friend, playing together, out of nowhere my screen says “Defeat”, everyone has their bases and fighting. My friend is still playing that game now.
That is the only issue that bothers me, otherwise this has been an amazing Beta, probably one of my favorites.

I have experienced a few bugs. Loading is an issue. The tutorial video had issues & would skip. The selection screen would get stuck. After teams have been determined the loading screen will freeze before the match begins.

I have seen animation glitches when dropping mines and there seems to be a lag when all 4 players confront each other at once.

i had a good experience and very few issues.

My two biggest issues are:

A.) The enormous leader power tree and “leader points” to unlock the leader powers, it’s stupid and too extensive, leader powers shouldn’t be able to completely change the tide of battle, only assist as another strategy to achieve the ultimate goal of winning/destroying bases. There are so many that if you deploy them all in a row, they can completely obliterate an enemies army and base at the same time. Using the Banished abilities of Cleansing Beam and the other smaller beam easily destroy a base very quickly, and don’t even get me started on the pelican air raid. Leader points are stupid, if it takes more than an hour and a half to unlock half of my full potential then I’m not going to want to play long term, which will lead to extensive rushing.

B.) Supplies and Power are essentially the exact same currency, it’s obnoxious for me to have to mine both simultaneously so one of them should be scrapped, it would literally change absolutely nothing about the game, the differences between these two currencies is so minute that the loss of one would legitimately change absolutely nothing. The fact that you have to upgrade your base to build tech power is also tiresome, the first game had the formula perfect with reactor power, so why scrap something that isn’t broken. They should just turn the power generators for both factions back into reactors and be done with it, the game would flow so much smoother if this were implemented.

Other than that, I’ve had a lot of fun with the beta. The addition of new units and abilities is certainly interesting! The real problem is that the two systems I mentioned above were fundamental aspects of Halo Wars one that made it so amazing and by changing them, they have altered the game we all loved far too much. 343 needs to at least put something like a “Classic” game mode in the game which plays just like the original Halo Wars just with the new units and factions, now that would be fun!

Hola soy de México y quiero reportar que el juego al momento de comenzar a jugar se congela la imagen y no deja jugar el juego, así también ocurre al iniciar el juego después de presionar “A” te aparece la imagen de presionar = y se queda congelado esto último es sólo ocasionalmente pero igual es molesto ya que no deja probar la beta con solvencia. En cuanto a la mecánica del juego me gusta es similar a la de halo wars 1. Aunque me hubiera gustado un poco más de variedad en cuanto a unidades especiales me refiero a que me hubiera gustado tener a los odst en cutter y años brutes con atriox es decir poderlos mejorar y hacerla unidad en vez de invocarla ocasionalmente. Espero puedan pulir esos defectos.

The biggest overall issue I had with the beta was just getting into the game. There are several and severe connection and loading issues when it comes to getting into and out of the multiplayer lobby. This includes but not limited too; Freezing, lagging, unresponsive button commands, disconnecting from servers, dropping out of game, etc… I usually have to restart the Beta multiple times before I can even get into a match. Opening up my friends list will freeze or not react to commands when one action was used (i.e. sending an invite). I have to also keep hitting the A button to start a game only to be met my multiple message windows saying “could not connect to party” Personally I think the entire lobby and connection system needs to be overhauled and re-organized to handle simple commands and actions to play a game.

It also makes my xbox disconnect from xbox live. no joke. it makes it think it’s not connect to the internet yet I can still see my friends list.

I encountered a glitch where bullets and powers were not visible on the field. This glitch also seemed to reduce damage dealt. I used the Cleansing Beam during this time and I could hear it but couldn’t see it and it didn’t seem to do much, if any, damage.

Yeah well my game still isn’t working. The beta has been out for the full time now and I haven’t got to play once despite searching on fixes for my issues and taking to twitter to contact both Xbox and 343. Poor service and my problem was never seen to and was never fixed. Thanks for wasting my time in getting my hopes up for a good second halo wars. Good job 343.

I had the opportunity to play both as cutter and the covenant guy. My son and I really enjoyed the beta, and he had me get out Halo Wars 1 so he could play it. I haven’t played it in years, but it was still very fun! Thanks 343 for bringing this game back.
Onto the issues!
Cutter issues:

  1. the invis sniper guys do not attack bases or base defenses. When you have, say, 10 of these guys and you can’t kill them off or get them to destroy anything it is a pain to have them taking up your population count.
  2. had an issue where my units seemingly didn’t do any damage to the enemy, but were being destroyed really fast. At one point I though that my helicopter was attacking itself instead of the enemy.
  3. Base defenses seem to take much to long to be destroyed. I had 20 units attacking an enemy starting base and focused on the cutter turrets first to destroy them so I could damage the main complex. The turrets cut through me like butter and I never did much damage to a single turret. This happened as well with 4 tanks all with canister ability. Not a single turret destroyed.
  4. No reload timer for any of the vehicle special abilities. When you select a vehicle unit, there is a constant yellow Y indicator on the bottom right of the unit selector.

Covenant issues:

  1. Using the air pad feature and making the large supper unit that can land and shoot a volley of rockets, the volley doesn’t seem to work. I locked the ship down and then could never unlock it. At one point, there were two ships sitting on top of each other in permanent lock down and they made an animation as if they were shooting but I could not tell what they were shooting at.
  2. Adding the shield generator to your base seems to make the base invulnerable to all air and land attacks, except enemy brutes can come through your shields and destroy buildings.

I also had the same issue as the others where I would be in the middle of a battle with someone, or attacking their base and suddenly the “Victory” screen would come up.

All in all though, a fun game and good test. I had fun experimenting with the various units to see what they could do, it just takes a while to level each up and get enough units on the battle field to do any real damage. As I stated above, you can build the base units pretty fast while savaging resources, but if you attack a base that already has some defenses up, then your units are toast because those turrets seem very overpowered unless you are using the leader power units.
