If you wait about a minute or so on the startup screen the game catches up with itself and you can skip the tutorial video just fine and get to playing
As a Halo Wars player with 4000 hours plus I am proud to say reaching Platinum 1 rank in beta and discovering no bugs was awesome. Except lag puts and game resets I found no broken game mechanics. Thanks
I’ve been having an issue when starting the beta up when I get to the title screen the game freezes up right at the start of the video that you can skip.
So after playing a few rounds here come my thoughts on the game play. Hopefully everyone agrees and these suggestions help make a great game. I was so excited to hear about HW2, so hopefully this beta lets you guys make it right. There is a lot of potential here for a great game and a resurgence in RTS gaming as a whole if this game can be done correctly. I hope February will release HW2 with the following fixes and so much more!. Here goes nothing:
The Pros:
-Unit movement and graphics are very nice and entertaining
-The use of a second currency called Power adds more strategic depth to the gameplay
-Creating generators and upgrading them is reasonably cheap
-I like the configuration of the right bumper for multi use unit selection
The Cons:
-Why are there no upgrade paths available for air units as cutter?
-Also, beyond frustrating, what the **** happened to power turrets for scorpions?
-And only one Spartan? Super downgrade on your part HW2. Bring back 3!
-It feels like the game was created to push many foot units with few vehicles; as everything costs far too many population points in this game and the vehicles are under powered.
-While on the pop. topic, why only 60 population cap? We have newer, faster systems with a myriad of hardware upgrades from the previous gen, yet there has been only a slight increase in army size? A 60 pop limit just seems uselessly small. The least you can do is have the units cost less population points!
-The lack of audible “under attack” alerts needs fixed, the random “slicing” noise is a confusing alert for something I have yet to discover, and there is no dramatic background music when engaging with the enemy or interacting with the world.
-The pressing of the x button to move units needs to visually show the blue indicator for longer.
-I am still unclear of the functionality of the LT, since it is no longer speed scroll. RB is a very bad idea for speed scrolling. The controls for HW1 are fantastic, why is there a need to change them so much?
-If specials like canister shell, volley, rockets, etc are still around, then advertise the “Y” button as an option to press when the special is charged. People who haven’t played HW would have no idea it exists.
-Visually the units and vehicles look very nice, but the buildings and bases are suffering big time. Bases need more visual cues that building spots are availble
And the bugs:
-THIS BETA IS PRETTY BAD, SO KEEP IT OPEN LONGER AND LEARN FROM THE PLAYERS TO MAKE THE RIGHT IMPROVEMENTS. A WEEK IS TOO SHORT TO LEARN ANYTHING THAT MAY BE OF REAL BENEFIT.
-ALL THE BUTTONS ARE INCREDIBLY INSENSITIVE. In HW1, we barely had to tap a button to activate it, but now I find that I have to over dramatically hold any button just to get a response. FIX THIS PLEASE.
-Like everyone else, the start menu freeze is terribly frustrating. Also I cant actually finish any games: all of them seem to randomly end at around 80% complete.
-At many times during gameplay, I will task a unit to travel very far across the map, but the unit will only actually move about a quarter of the way and then just get stuck and need retasked again.
-There always seems to be an enemy that gets dropped from the game, but I never am alerted. I build a large army to attack 2 enemies only to discover that one of the enemy home bases on the map are no longer there and the player is gone.
-Sometimes empty building slots on a base will blend too well with the ground and be borderline unnoticeable or hard to select and I forget to build on them.
Sorry for the long post, but hopefully this helps deliver a game that truly is incredible and not just a prettier version of the first one.
I have been having a problem booting it up, when it loads up it has crash on me numerous times.
Can’t get past the start screen. Spamming B doesn’t seem to work still freezing.
Crashed the first time I launched it. It froze and mid-game and I had to quit the game from the home screen.

I completely agree with all of this but I would like to add a few things.
-The AI for the spartan is pretty terrible and the other brute hero was noticeably better in combat
-There needs to be a % value for all building construction
-The ability to select all units needs to be drastically easier
-The infantry seems to be incredibly overpowered with the vehicle unit sizes not making it worth the space vs the infantry
I hope this helps improve the game!
I was platinum 6 when i logged off now i am platinum 4 >:(
Day 2, beta still won’t work. This is great, thanks guys.
The big issue that I’m running into is that it freezes up once a game starts and it just says “Waiting for players” but the game starts while I’m unable to do anything.
I am updating my master list here:
But here’s what it says so far:
Where do I even begin? Wow… LOTS of work to do, guys…
First of all, please, for the love of God, don’t release this game until you implement many of the changes listed here by me, and the rest of the community. I would much rather see it delayed than see it released too early and destroy the franchise. That being said, you already have my $80 and am happy to keep it that way no matter what. Please help me feel it was worth my investment.
Bugs:
-
Game freezes at start for some people – many supposed “fixes” such as waiting a long time, or pressing X to sign in have been suggested, but in my experience, it seems to just come down to dumb luck. Maybe remove the mandatory tutorial? I’ve tried everything from restarting the app, to signing in again, to powering off the xbox and unplugging it for 30 seconds, to uninstalling it and downloading it again from scratch. Still can’t seem to get back in. - Problems “syncing data” – this seemed to freeze my game too. - Game in different language for some people. - Game crashes mid-game for some people. I’ve been in 5 games out of 11 now, where either my game crashed, or my ally’s game crashed, leaving me (or them) to do a 1v2 game. - The heal spell doesn’t always show the green circle when deployed. - The mac blast doesn’t always show the red drop line before firing. - Sometimes the warthog appears to be shooting in the wrong direction. - There have been many times I’ve told units to do something, and they don’t do it. For example, I tell a unit to capture a domination point. It starts doing it, then just walks away and stops. - There have been many times I’ve told units to use the Y ability, and they don’t do it. - When capturing the top two points on the map, if a unit is alone, he gets tripped up over the terrain, and can’t reliably capture the point. - Unit pathfinding sometimes doesn’t work. You tell them to move across the map, and they get stuck on the terrain, and just stop. - Sometimes I hit the RB for local units, and nothing gets selected until I hit the button a 2nd or 3rd time.Feedback:

The artwork needs some serious help, the original looks WAY better than this one. Buildings, Units, they all need to have their artwork improved, it’s scary to play this and feel like it was done by 1st year college students. (no insult intended) It’s just too cartoonish. The tanks in particular look ridiculous. - You can’t clearly see which units are attacking what. We need to see projectiles, especially need to see the canister shell. It’s difficult to tell whether or not you’re going to win a battle, to know if you need to stay or retreat. - The camera movements are sluggish, and not very pinpoint accurate. It feels almost glitchy and jumpy. The controls are where HW1 shined brilliantly, and this one still needs help to get there. It’s difficult to target specific enemies and units, there used to be a bit of magentism to unit selection, that doesn’t seem to be here and needs to be. - Allow us to leave the circle menu by switching to a different base, or by pressing local (or all) units. It slows me down by having to press B to leave the circle menus. - Thank you for adding a few new units, but still keeping the simplicity of the game mostly in tact. I’m excited to see how well these new units mix in. - Domination is not a good game type for the beta, it forces you to rush, but people need time to sit back and learn the game first before being forced into a try hard rush fest. Can we have a standard game mode, or at least a single player skirmish against the AI? - The Y button needs to be visible when I’m able to use it. - The mini map needs to show where my ally is looking - Can we move leader powers back to Up on the D-pad, and move global rally point to the L bumper, and quick camera movement back to L Trigger? - Why is the population limit so low? And unit population totals so high? The population system in HW1 was perfect, I didn’t see a need to adjust it? - We need to be able to see a visible difference in the units when the tech level increases. I need to know by looking at the unit what level it is. I don’t think we can even click on it to see right now, can we? This is extremely helpful for knowing when to engage in battle, or when to hold off and tech up. - Can we see post game statistics? - When you queue multiple upgrades, they need to be highlighted so you can see they’re in the queue. - We need alerts when a battle is taking place. It sucks to look over and realize your army was destroyed without warning. - We need to see a building percentage when clicking on a building that’s in the process of being built. - The Warthogs don’t move like Warthogs… HW1 had this down perfectly. - Flaring the screen for your ally to see, doesn’t work properly, I need a sound or something to help make that flare a bit more obvious. Sadly, many players play without a mic, and this is the only form of communication they have. - Base hitpoints need to be more visible. It’s difficult to see how close you are to killing the base. - Economy - Why did you introduce more forms of currency and “points” in this game? HW1 was simple, the economy worked well. You’ve taken the game and needlessly overcomplicated it, when the true hallmark of the original game was in its simplicity. - FOV - Can we zoom out a bit more? It still feels like we’re too closely zoomed in. Increase the field of view, please.Balance:
-
Tanks are underpowered - Marines are overpowered - Mac blast is useless until level 3 - ODST drops are useless - The warlord is useless - especially compared to the old chieftain…Forums:
-
Can we please have more than 5 forum posts per day during the beta? I have much more contribution to give, but I am being silenced by this daily limit.Beta:
-
Given the startup issues, can we have an extension on the beta end date? I’ve lost an entire day on this because I can’t even get into the game. The bottom line is, the fans are hoping for something that feels like HW1, but with more units and features. Not overly complex, keep the simplicity there…
But the core functionality is a must - and this game just doesn’t have that core functionality solid yet. Hopefully this feedback can help it get there.
THANK YOU!!! Thank you for making this game! I’m SO excited to see it grow and evolve, and I’m excited to be a part of that process.
Updating feedback as I go along. I hope this feedback helps, can we get some sort of official response from the creators? Formal Acknowledgement of reading this feedback?
i must say this game beat my expectations. Just a few crashes when loading into the online match. Would be nice if the finished game has 1v1 because sometimes the team player disconnects and it ends up being 2v1 and it isn’t fair. Thanks.
Just make sure you fix the cursor movement, it’s horrible right now. Please make the maps MUCH bigger.
Currently sat in my fourth match of the beta. As with my second match, I am frozen out of participating.
The match began and I still have a blue banner across my screen with the norification of “waiting for players…”. I am unable to partake in the match as the game will not accept any command from the controller. I am receiving notifications of the progress of the match and I can follow the actions of my team parter on the minimap. In the first instance the match lasted over 16 minutes, the second was 13 minutes. This is the experience of 50% of my time with the beta.
Freezes after I hit start at the title screen. Tried the power cycle on my xbox, also let the game sit for a few minutes at the title screen. Still freezes on me.
Is the 3g update really only addressing menu problems? Why is it so large?
No bugs so far.
well i tried relaunching the beta and i got past the main menu but it was black for a minute i think, then i got past the main menu to where the announcer talks even if he spoke in spanish
LOVE THE GAME i prefered halo wars to all other halos but 2 and 3 because of the ending and overall gameplay. I wish the beta was longer
