Multiplayer Battle Damage?

An idea I’ve been thinking about lately is battle damage to your armor. In Halo CE we didn’t have vehicle damage, and now in Halo: Reach we have smoke, bullet holes in the windshield, dents, all this stuff.

What about take it to the next level? Start out basic, then by the time Halo 6 roles around it could be quite intricate. Basically how this would work is the amount of shots you take, explosions, fire, plasma, etc. would determine the amount of damage your player’s armor would show. For instance human weapons would cause dents and scratches with holes in some places. Plasma based weaponry would create burns and scorches on the armor, even parts of the armor completely burned away. (Similar to the damage seen on Chief in Halo 3, like a chipped piece of armor. Rockets, frag grenades, and splash damage (Considering you survive) would cause ships and parts looking like they’re about to fall off. Plasma Grenades would cause warping and major scorching. Fire would cause burn marks and warping in extreme areas. Then collisions with vehicles would create large dents, same with melee hits. Swords would create slash marks, hammers would, well a large warped dent. Maybe even small cracks in the corners of the visor after a grenade? (Not enough to block vision.)

What do you guys say about this idea? Could it work, or would resources be better spent elsewhere?

If it doesn’t waste too much space, then okay.
