Much of booting into H5 nowadays are these bland uninspired arenas as seen up top. I’m aware it’s a forge map, but is a huge portion of what is played. The base maps aren’t a huge step above either. Hop on MCC to play a 12 year old game and I’m greeted by something that still titillates my artistic senses through atmosphere, art and sound direction with a sense of wonderment. There’s no way we’ve went this far backwards in twelve years, it’s honestly laughable when side by side.
Certain Affinity absolutely nailed this with H2A’s maps (if only there were more than a sample size). Maps literally make you stop, inspect beautiful skyboxes, foliage and mysterious details again. Maps are interactive like Shrine’s waterfalls. They have a hint of lore and life to them. Have this team work closely on Infinite’s maps, please.
I’m all for competitive maps, but that doesn’t mean they have to have the life sucked out of them.
the art style shown in the trailer was really nice, I hope that will carry over to the mp aswell. we will have to wait and see. this is the only reason im giving infinite a chance. hopefully they replaced the devs who “dont even like halo” with some that do. Im sure they will be fine working on another game.
I hope we have more natural terrain and and non human themed maps. H5 4v4 feels so industrial and characterless. BTB is much better in that regard but is held back by forge only maps. WZ is pretty good too, I wonder why just in 4v4 they went this route.

I agree. The only map that really stands out to me in 5 that isn’t a remake is fathom. Love the underwater base design

I feel like the core concept behind Torque was really cool with a rotating skybox (due to being on a revolving space station) complete with fully dynamic shadows as it rotates. This awesomeness was lost in the generic wash of greys and the same old same old human architecture though.
I think it would be nice to have some nice new maps with their own inspirations, although the frequency of 343 and community made maps is also nice. I think it would be amazing if the tools to change the forge objects into grittier pieces would do the forged maps a lot of help. To many maps now are clean looking almost pristine.
i personally cant stand forge maps being in rotation. I hope they are removed from competitive playlists OR forge is built to use all the same assets in the base maps.
The art style of Halo was just simply better in Bungie’s games. Particularly the Forerunner maps and artifacts. I hate how 343 has made all Forerunner objects this shiny metal with bright blue or orange lights. Bungie’s design was much better, with more of a matte finish on metal objects mixed with some concrete looking objects, on Forerunner multiplayer maps. I always got a silent and mysterious feeling in Bungie’s Forerunner maps. Epitaph and Guardian from H3 are great examples of this.

I agree. I hope that on this new installation we get even older looking architecture, since it is the oldest Halo ring. Maybe more archaic and rushed looking. We’re some things are actually falling apart and being reclaimed by nature. Maybe something like the intro part to Delta Halo., where there are those forerunner ruins and they’re all run down and made of stone, along with human made buildings as well.

Well the problem with human maps is that they’re all new and industrial. Give us some maps more like Ghost Town, where it’s all run down and more human like. Where nature and structure meet together.
