Destiny 2 has a function where if you’re team is just getting railed by the enemy team, the announcer calls the match early to end believing that there’s no hope coming back. This could help to prevent people from leaving games and getting penalized while also moving to games faster.
For those that dislike it because they believe every game can be a sweaty snowball, they can just add that function in social arena and not have that function in ranked arena.
Sometimes Shaxx would call games that had a good chance of a comeback, just because one side took a strong early lead. I’m against having this automated, but I’d support having a vote to concede option.
Many times people stay in a game because they don’t want to screw up their stats or face consequences for quitting. I sincerely believe that statistics in social games should be eliminated to avoid this type of situation where games are kept unnecessarily, among other reasons.
I really don’t think it should. I Have seen matches where one team was leading by half in BTB 25 to 50 in a 100 kill game.
Then our team takes the air or we manage to deny them the power weapon and swap the score winning.
Never agreed with early end options, as you never know how a match might swing. You can always end up with a person who is god like with one weapon or vehicle only and it will swing the match once they get it. See me as a falcon pilot.
I wouldn’t be against it. Some games are almost impossible to come back from. This is especially true if you have AFK’ers, betrayers, or just plain old bad teammates. Especially with big team, there are times where I just want the game to end, because we’re just waiting to get slaughtered. But where that threshold lies is the question. Sometimes you can come back from being down 20. If you get on a good run with a Scorpion, for instance. So 20 might be too low, at least in big team. Maybe 35 points? But then, if we’re over halfway through the match, do you just finish it out and just get exp (which we only get from challenges - still not happy with this).
To my mind, a mercy rule seems like a bit of a copout when they have control over so many aspects of the game.
I’d rather see them try to prevent the conditions that create these types of slaughters in the first place by implementing accurate and tight skill and team size matching, as well as anti-griefing and robust banhammer systems, reasonable join in progress, etc.
I’d honestly be ok with that in terms of ranked match making. When you’re just simply looking for a fun distraction to wind down after a long day, there is nothing quite as frustrating as half your team quitting out and dropping like flies and leaving stuck in a bad situation where you can’t back out without fear of a temp ban cramping your leisure time. A mercy rule or handicap for points could be a solution but I don’t fully know how one would go about implementing such a feature.
Its not a silly function. Not everyone can sit in a game knowing the loss is inevitable. Especially if the whole team already left, and you just got to kill the same last guy 40 more times or wait 10 minutes for the timer to expire- what happens then?
Obviously they don’t want to add a function where players just drop in from matchmaking because nobody wants to join those games. So if things like this happen, an “end early” function is appropriate.
A but more of games have these functions now that I think about it. League of Legends has a remake function too.
Yeah, Destiny 2’s kinda humiliates you. If Infinite were to implement a system, the AI could have dialogue akin to “Aww shucks, we’ll get em next time!” or “Darn, it was a good effort, let’s get ready for the next one!”
With bot’s backfilling people who leave, I don’t see a need for a “mercy” rule.
Though SBMM needs to ensure that people are not being put into landslide games, every game should be close within a few points. That’s how you know SBMM is working - suitable matches that are fun.
I understand that getting stomped isn’t fun, but I’m not a huge fan of the game telling me that I have no chance of making a comeback and ending the match prematurely. Comeback victories are very satisfying and shouldn’t be removed. As someone who plays Destiny, I honestly find it incredibly irritating to be on either side of a Merc. Sure, there are times where teams are just blatantly unbalanced but most of the time the game is jumping the gun and ending matches too soon. The only situation where I would be fine with a mercy happening is if people have already quit the match because a numbers disadvantage is blatantly unfair and easy to abuse for the other team.
Is there actually bot backfilling? I’m trying to remember my time in the flight and I can’t remember bots filling in for players that left.
Any which way, given the score numbers in your average Slayer match and the speed at which the average Slayer match finishes, I only think that mercy rules should take effect if half or more of someone’s team leaves and winning is impossible outside of a miracle. If you’re in a standard 4v4 Slayer match, your team is losing 15 to 43, and all your team is there, then the game goes on to the end and you’re expected to finish with honor.
If it’s just you and someone else against a team of four and it’s clear you’re not gonna win, or it’s you all alone, then the game should have an announcement and go on for like, 15 more seconds so there’s no instant jarring “Game Over!” screen out of the blue.
This is something that should have been added to Halo a long time ago. Playing MCC Heavies, the games are incredibly one sided more often than not. I’m talking 40+ point difference. There should certainly be a “Mercy” rule or something where the game ends early.
Further more, if a team is outnumbered because of teammates quitting early, a message should appear to reassure the player that they can quit without being penalized. If they decide to stick it out, they should be rewarded with double XP.
