firstly, I want to say, I think it’s really cool that you guys (343) wanted to implement lore into multiplayer. it’s a very interesting idea. but my problem with how you use lore is that rather than adding things from lore that would be AMAZING ( for example, A spartan simulation to practice against.) you are, instead, using it as an excuse to do what you want.
Let’s talk about everyone’s FAVORITE topic. playable elites. from a lore perspective, it makes no sense that you HAVENT added them in yet. why? because in halo escalation we literally see elites and Spartans training together. and yes, there is the factor of balance in gameplay, but you have shown in other aspects of the multiplayer, that you don’t care about that. (example: ground pound. seriously overpowered. )
so I wanted to ask, do you really care about lore? is important to you? or did you really just bring it in as another excuse to pass for your gameplay as good when most a quick look at youtube or on google shows a great deal of hate.
I agree it’s like the use the lore excuse to their benefit. Why can’t we have playable elites? Oh well it makes no sense lore wise. Well why is there a grunt commentating your spartan training ? Oh well uhhh, he snuck in.
I mean I think making multiplayer lore makes no sense whatsoever but don’t use it as an excuse or make it limit the user experience.

There is a Playable Elites thread, you can go rant in there.
There’s already a megathread regarding playable Elites running around.

Yes and yes however lore as an excuse for anything gameplay related is a no-no.
Letting gameplay influence lore is a good thing however, like how it explains zooming in in past games, an ironically more impressive feat compared to the smart scoping ADS of today.

The topic is greater than just the Elites being playable, OP just used the Elites as their initial example. Another example that could be discussed is how the outro sequences started a ruckus on the forums, or how making everything tied into lore can be a limiting factor in game design.
To answer your question OP, Yes lore is important to me, but to an extent. Once lore overshadows multiplayer gameplay, I feel it becomes a problem.

Sangheili who don’t believe in the Covenant train aside Spartans and the UNSC, so it does make sense. But let’s not turn this into a micro Playable Elites thread.
