Much more unique customisation in halo on X1

I made a topic similar to this a while ago. But I didn’t explain it very well and I made the idea sound bad. I will try to explain it much better here and try to expand it more in a better manner

In halo, people love customisation, unlocking new stuff made people happy as they could have more freedom customizing your spartan. I think maybe having over clothing for a sort of fun way to express yourself in multiplayer. Imagine designing your cool armour for your spartan and them giving him/her a pair of flip flops, a kilt, a backpack, an eyepatch on his visor and a little halo hovering above his head. Games like team fortress 2 offers silly customisations like this and people love it because a lot of people love to collect things as it gives them a purpose in the game. Now before people say it would destroy serious competitive gaming they could simply disable it for rank play lists and leave it for Social and custom games only. Plus also this could help 343 as they could update the game regularly with new items that you can unlock through challenges or pay £0.70/ $1for the items if you can’t do the challenge.

Having new items frequently introduced and have them really unusual and interesting enough, would make people want to go back on halo even more and collect them

I don’t think that having Spartans walking around with flip flops and snorkels would make a very serious multiplayer environment.

I’d rather have it include things like ammo pouches or grenade belts.

Team fortress is a great game, but also a goofy one.
Halo Is a very serious game and that would ruin the game. How about ideas that would improve on gameplay. And not stupid things like putting a cowboy hat on your spartan.
Being able to customize as much as you can now is pretty pointless enough. The graphics are so over done you can’t even tell what people are wearing besides there helmet. Waste of resources IMO.

This is a good idea for certain games, but I would prefer that Halo keeps its serious and someone dark theme.

I’m not exactly the biggest fan of what happened to TF2. There’s a pretty significant difference between being stylized and being cartoony, and this was completely overlooked.

I didn’t have anything against the addition of hats, but the hats just got more and more out of place while we add things like pink and lime paint ontop of it that just completely kill the spy-fi theme of the game.

And no, I would never want to see things like flip flops or pirate hats in Halo.

Though I wouldn’t mind a Reach-esque system where we can unlock accessories like extra armor plating (cosmetic only), ammo pouches, wrist-devices, etc.

some things i would like to see in this category…
No helmets… like a face from johnson, buck, lasky…you know what i mean
scratched Helmet visor like emile in halo reach…but with variety

I think flaming helmet and the other effects would fall under this too

Maybe glowing visor would be nice

A sword on back… maybe even usable in custom game multiplayer where it could be enabled/disabled

And i think color of visor…which is already being done would fall under hear.

also…dear OP, I see where you are going with this, and i think halo used to have a good feeling like that especially with all the easter eggs in halo 2, and i kinda agree, as an easter egg, there should be some unique unlock for armor custimization…but it shouldnt fall to far out of original.Maybe like a katana on back like in halo 3, or the return of th hayabusa helmet…what do you think.

> there should be some unique unlock for armor custimization…but it shouldnt fall to far out of original.Maybe like a katana on back like in halo 3, or the return of th hayabusa helmet…what do you think.

I suppose.

FOTUS is pretty rare and is kind of silly, but it’s still functional armor nonetheless, whereas a pirate hat doesn’t even make any remote amount of sense.

Oh almost forgot, i think elbems would be the perfect solution OP as they could be as silly as you want and people wont critisize it.

Even if this was for Social, it wouldn’t really even fit the art approach of Halo.
I’d rather have things which make sense or can be funny, but not this way. If you want goofy, I suggest visor paintings(troll face, derp, Mr.Chief, etc)
Or maybe a customized waypoint, but as you said, I’d rather not be laughing when focusing on ranking up or in serious environments.

Also, armour effect should add nyan

…and when you -Yoink!- in certain substances you might get a tiny icon over your head saying something ridiculous…

But overall I don’t suggest that this should happen…

I think it would attract a bigger audience. Imagine telling your friend that in halo mp you can fight infected zombie players while your spartan is wearing the pope’s robes and his hat, sounds funny and very interesting. The thing is though that this could be the solution of attracting more casual player as it gives them the desire to unlock all this cool stuff. The serious side of halo MP is the gameplay and like what I said before why not disable the funny overalls for rank matches to keep it focus on serious matches and not get distracted. I want to play a halo game that could help bring back the little kid in me. I always had a blast on halo games but I don’t want MP to be completely serious that it drains all the fun away from me and the way everyone is basically telling 343 to have a much more serious competitive halo gets me worried that I just wants something to laugh and enjoy myself with:)

One of the biggest competitive games out there, league of legends allows you to dress some of your characters in pool party outfits and there is other silly outfits for other characters as well and the serious competitive gameplay is still there so why can’t halo do this

LOL, yes that is funny and would attract a more casual audience, how would that even fit on a Spartan without looking plain stupid?(the Spartan…)

But in general to what you said, I agree that we need more fun!(customs were basically ruined)

But I’m not sure if what you said counted as an offense but we aren’t allowed to reference religions here…

lol i was stuck with the idea of customizing the face of a spartan to somewhat look like you, like the way Saints Row 2 does it. It doesnt hurt gameplay. Its jut something to add into customization along with taking off your helmet. However, that idea was shot down for some odd reason.

Crap… I didn’t know that. I’m Roman Catholic so I thought it would be ok should I edit it?

If anyone isn’t sold on the idea what about a dinosaur outfit for the elites?

> If anyone isn’t sold on the idea what about a dinosaur outfit for the elites?

Now I’m not even remotely sold on the idea.

I’d prefer a serious halo game with the regular customization options like helmets, torso, etc. But I wouldn’t mind having a few more options for legs and fore arms.

> If anyone isn’t sold on the idea what about a dinosaur outfit for the elites?

you got my laugh…hmmm, now that you bring it up…naw… i was inclining more to a gorilla outfit for the brutes…but elites…they are now just plain, no longer hunchbacked species.and they have no tail…there was a reason why elites didnt get a tail in halo CE, because they wouldnt be able to drive ghosts…lol

I haven’t played TF2 but I got the impression that the customization stuff got out of hand in the ridiculous apartment. The DotA 2 community was in an outrage when a supposed Kunkka hat featuring a shipmaiden was potentially going to get implemented, and even that was somewhat in tone with the game.

Having eyepatches, sombreros and flipflops would destroy any immersion that this game has managed to produce.

Spartans are disciplined soldiers in power armor. I don’t want to see silly big foam hands, sumo suits or googly eyes on any spartan. It destroys what a Spartan is even when I know it’s not serious.

No, I don’t want to fight Elites in silly dinosaur suits, even if the dinosaur suits are realistic looking I wouldn’t want it. I wouldn’t want to fight regular elites wearing Chuck Norris beard and superman’s suit.

And this silly costume gimmick wouldn’t drag any serious gamer to the fold. If you advertise your game by “fight infected zombie players while your spartan is wearing the pope’s robes and his hat” then you are doing something seriously wrong, especially if your game is a big sci fi franchise over a decade old.

For a remake of Team Buddies, yes. For Halo? No.

That’s the reason it why I said it shouldn’t be in ranked game modes, social game modes only because people like to play for fun and not be serious. Halo reach had small things like the grunt birthday scream when you died and people loved that. You ever noticed that in halo 3 had a lot of funny Easter eggs, the covanent talk in a funny manner and also how many people became obsessed with the katana that did nothing and recon armour. People would go crazing for insane customisation. Also remember halo reach and 4 sort of lost that charm of having serious ideas in multiplayer for example elite lovers cried everywhere when they did the serious invasion tie in. And they cried more when elites weren’t in halo 4 MP because they went with the serious idea of a spartan training ground in the infinity and both lost the funny charm of the English speaking covanent.

Let the ghost have a giant hole in the back to make room xD
