Hello,
Since a few time, i keep noticing that in my “WindowsApps” folder there are two other folder concerning this game.
“Microsoft.Chelan_1.1389.0.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe” which seems to be the game’s folder with 33Gb, and another folder, “MSIXVC” which contain a 30Gb file named “050FBB4D-16E5-42A8-945A-963D007974AA”.
The game is supposed to be 33 Gb, when i uninstall it, both folders disappear.
But i gain only 30Gb of space on my disk.
If i reinstall the game, it seems it take more of 60Gb, so i’m loosing disk’s space at each install.
Can you help me with this ?
Thanks,
Ben8310.
Do you have any XBOX Game Pass or other store games installed? Or did you have the game pass when it was in beta? I believe the MSIXVC folder is like the operating system’s WinSxS folder, used to patch and setup software.
Well no but it seems it is a bug causing by the MSIXVC folder that is the system that Windows store uses for installing games.
I tried with other Windows games use the same system but i do not have this bug with them.
I bought the game on steam, no more issue here.
Same here, Halo MCC, as announced, takes roundabout 90gb of disk space, but in addition there’s the msixvc folder, taking another 90gb. I consider this a bug as long as I don’t see a good explanation by Microsoft. At least they should announce correct numbers for disk space in the specs.
After 2 failed installs it took more and more space and now i literally only have 10 GB free on my C drive. I spend two days on the phone with Microsoft customer support but they couldn’t help and just told me to get in contact with the game developer to see where the install files go. Welp I just learned 343 doesn’t even HAVE a customer support page. My game isn’t even installed so i have no option to play it or uninstall it, but somehow its sitting somewhere on my system taking up space twice. I’ve never had this issue with any sort of program. Why is the microsoft store so -Yoinked!-? Can someone PLEASE help me?
I still did not find any solution here but to buy the game from steam.
There is no issue here, because no MSIXVC folder and you can choose which games you want before installing…(steam dlc system is great)
Windows store is really a plague…
I had this issue. It wouldn’t even let me delete the files no matter what I tried, I went as far as opening Windows Safe mode and command prompt and nothing worked. I downloaded this program called unlocker and tried it on the MSIXVC folder and after a few tweaks it worked! It cleared up about 200GB of disk space for me. I didn’t even have to remove the Chelan file, it disappeared when I deleted the MAIXVC file. There is still a little over 50GB not showing on TreeSize free, but I think that may be from another source. What I’ve read is the file becomes corrupted in some cases with the Halo 3 part of the download which causes this issue.

I actually signed in and I have never replied to a quote or thread in my life… but for this I had to. Everything I had done and I mean EVERYTHING I did and I could not delete or recover this 140-200gb of storage that the Microsoft.chelan folder was taking up along with the MSIXVC folder. I did exactly what you did using the unlocker program, it wasn’t able to delete at the time so I had it delete at system boot and both folders cleared up. You are a lifesaver. Thank you so much
