MS Store owners don't get flight access

It’s in the title. I asked Ske7ch on twitter. If you own the game on PC, but own the gamepass/Xbox app version of the campaign you do not get flight access. It has to be through Steam or an Xbox console.

So yeah. I’m dusting off the old Xbox One S and downloading it to play with my GF on her Series X.

Figured I’d leave this here so everyone who kept checking like me can stop checking.

Bummer. I hope there’s a good logistical reason why this is the case.

I’m used to seeing consoles overlooked for Steam when it comes to beta testing. But you’d think the Xbox app would support beta testing of a Microsoft title.

Thanks, I just came to the forums looking for this exact answer. It’s kind of ridiculous that Game Pass PC players are left out.

It could be worse, I bought the disc version for Xbox and I didn’t get invited for the flight !

It is weird, though as a PC player that uses the Xbox launcher for Infinite, I don’t see the issue; other than them not testing us minority of players that use the MS store version.

You can still play the flight through Steam without owning it on there as far as I’m aware. That’s what I did, granted I haven’t tested it yet, because it is 60 GBs and it took most of the night, so I just played Baldur’s Gate 3 instead.

If you’re on Xbox all you need to do is download the Xbox Insider App and join without needing to sign up on Waypoint, if I’m remembering correctly.

That is not the case, at least for me. I’ve been a Halo Insider since the MCC PC days. You have to own the campaign. At least that is what everything has said. Did you receive a steam key?

i recieved a steam key and i dont own the campaign on steam. i have the xbox version because with ultimate thats the only way i could play the campaign with it being free.

I still think that the steam version should be free if you have it linked to your xbox account that has gamepass ultimate. Seems like it wouldnt be hard to use some sort of authorization process to allow steam users to get it for free.

im downloading it tho to see if it works

Sounds like 343 once more snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

“We’re gonna run flights on all formats right?”
“Sure or… Hang on… What if on PC we only ran it on Steam rather than our own first party platform?”
“Perfect!”

I booted it up this morning and it was working fine for me. I won’t be able to test coop until later today when I’m done with errands and can play with my buddy though. I’ll update when I’m back on whether or not it’s working a hundy p.

I just checked the insider app it wasn’t listed in the things i was able to participate in

And i own a disc copy of the campaign

Booted up my Xbox and launched the app and it was available for me to download. I don’t know what to tell you man. Maybe they level gated it? Either that or it’s because I own it through the Xbox App on PC and my accounts are linked, perhaps.

I just remember Ske7ch saying that Xbox owners just had to join and download the Xbox Insider App to have access during the preview stream.

Edit: I went and watched the beginning of the preview stream to confirm and he does say you need to own the campaign on Xbox to play there. He says it at around the 14:00 mark if you want to check it out.

Yup. Xbox Play Anywhere. MS Store gets you the digital Xbox version too.

I own the campaign on disc and the only 5 things available for me in the previews section on the insider app are

Xbox update preview

Xbox accessibility insider league

Apple tv

Microsoft flight simulator beta

PC just gets steam keys. No idea why they don’t utilise the xbox insider app like they do on console. But I don’t think they go by ownership of the game since I have gotten like all insiders for PC on steam yet I don’t own it on steam at all. I think they just use steam since it is more convenient and has a better testing system than what they have.
